Friends, if I ask you, WHAT TIME IS IT? How would you answer that question? Well, there are at least 2 ways you can answer that question: One way is you can look down at your watch and tell me what time is it. And the other way is instead of looking down at your watch, you look around you and tell me what time is it. Looking around, we can say that we are having a time of crisis. You know, right now we’re having a health crisis ... Also, economically, there is a financi...al crisis ... and then, looking around us there is definitely a moral crisis. But now what the Apostle John is really interested about is what time is it spiritually? Are you growing up or just growing old? There is an enormous difference between growing old in the Lord and growing up in Him. One is automatic and requires no effort at all . . . just aging. But the other is never spontaneous nor easy. It calls for personal discipline, continual determination, and spiritual desire. And so, as we continue with our sermon series, our passage for today tells us that growing up doesn't happen all at once; it comes in stages, just like our... physical growth. And along with the process of growth, the Apostle John gave us the hindrances to growth. What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear those words Check the vital signs! These are, of course, words we hear in emergency rooms or in places where there’s an accident. Doctors, nurses and paramedics have been trained to check on the vital signs to determine life or the absence of it. Friends, when it comes to spiritual life, there are vital signs that we can check as well to know if one is Authentic or Synthetic.
