We have been riding a little high over at CLC Tree Services Ltd over the last few days. While we might know that Calvin McCallum is a pretty great guy, apparently his light has shone a little further than the CLC crew. He was recently listed as one of the top 20 Under 40 Class of 2020! Wow! "The people you see here are entrepreneurs, innovators and visionaries who are each making a difference in their field and in the city. The 20 Under 40 list is not just a celebration of y...oung, successful people, but also of the city that, despite a global pandemic, allows their successes to be possible." What an honour to be recognized amongst this worthy group of peers. Way to go Calvin! And Congratulations to the other bright and talented members of this group. Thank you all for making London a better place to live and work. #20under40 #ldnont

Just over a year ago, we were finalists for the Better Business Bureau Serving Western Ontario Business Integrity Awards. Ten years earlier, we won that coveted award. Whether you are a finalist or winner, know that both are incredible honours. If you are unfamiliar with the BBB, they are a great resource for anyone thinking about working with a local business. They give you basic information, like how many years the company has been in business, who the owner is, the compan...y's address, and contact information, but also offer a rating and note whether the company has had any recommendations or complaints against it. It is a valuable resource for anyone contemplating hiring a company, whether that be for home improvement, vehicle repair, or another business service. In case you were wondering, CLC Tree Services has proudly been an Accredited Member since 1994, and we carry an A+ rating. Top marks! And top marks to our local BBB office for providing a great service to people and businesses in our area! #TBT #BBB #ldnont

Did you plant a new tree in your yard this year? Good for you! There are things you should do when taking care of new trees, but other tasks that may do more harm than good. Make sure a newly planted tree gets sufficient water (newly planted trees require more frequent watering, but don't drown them!), has a layer of mulch around the base (but avoid mulch volcanos), and that it has proper pruning and fertilizing. A newly planted trees can provide years of enjoyment if treated well, so learn how to take care of your #trees early. #treecare #treeservices https://www.bhg.com//trees-shrubs/care/tree-care-mistakes/

Maple trees are beautiful, especially this time of year with their iconic blazing reds and oranges. Did you know that Norway maples are considered an invasive species though and that they are over-running native sugar #maple species? Even worse, they have been suffering from tar spot and there is a fear that the fungus might jump to our native species. If you are thinking about planting a tree this fall, please consider choosing #nativetrees. Not only do they build biodivers...ity and are better adapted to survive in our climate, but they promote the overall health of our native ecosystem. Learn the differences. Choose native. http://ow.ly/KZau50BSxcW

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. ~Chinese Proverb As the Chinese Proverb alludes to, any time to plant a tree is great, but now is ideal. And by now, we actually mean the fall. Autumn is a great time to #planttrees, as the ground is still warm and we often have enough wet fall days to water in and establish root systems. Plus, we are at the end of the growing cycle, so trees can put their energy towards those roots before worrying... about producing buds and growing their stems. So what are you waiting for? Go plant a tree now! https://www.ctvnews.ca//best-time-to-plant-a-tree-probably

"... a study conducted in Toronto revealed that people who live in neighborhoods with a higher density of trees on their streets report significantly higher health perception and less cardio-metabolic conditions. Having ten more trees on average in a city block improves health perception in ways comparable to an increase in annual personal income of 10.000 dollars or being 7 years younger. " Do you need a better reason to plant more trees? How about that the fall is an excellent time to plant trees too. So what are you waiting for? Time for some #treeplanting! https://ceoworld.biz//why-do-cities-need-trees-more-than-/

"I was extremely satisfied with the service that was given last week when that storm came through London and a tree fell on my roof. Dakota came that evening to make sure our roof was safe and we didnt have damage where rain was coming in. The next morning an amazing team came and took the tree down...I was so impressed at their safety and professional work. The clean up was done so well. Thank-you Calvin and the entire team that came and did an amazing job." ~Stephanie Always happy to know that our customers are pleased with our work. Especially when it comes to emergency storm cleanup. Downed trees can be dangerous to work with and should be left to professionals. Thank you for the 5 review Stephanie!

Teamwork is essential in this line of work. As #arborists, we need to communicate effectively, and always be aware of what is going on around us and where we need to be. "On Sunday, July 19 a big storm tore a large branch off of our large London Plain in our backyard and it fell in the neighbours yard. I called at 3:00 that afternoon and Calvin and Dakota were here from a call in Exeter Ont the evening at 7 p.m. They cleaned up and made sure things were secure and safe. Dakota was back with his crew Wed at 8 a.m. and cut all the damage limbs down, cut up the big pieces for firewood for the neighbour, and were knowledgeable on everything they... did! And the clean up was fantastic! It was like they were never there or no damage had ever occurred! Super Job!!!" ~ Brian & Lorraine Thank you so much for the review Brian and Lorraine! That day was a busy one and the storm calls kept coming all last week. We are happy to step up for people in emergency situations, but the only downfall is that these #emergencytreecare jobs mean that regularly scheduled #treeservice work ends up being postponed. Our apologies for those patiently waiting for tree care, but once the worst of the storm response calls are handled, we will be back to our previous schedule. #stormresponse #ldnont

Have you noticed yellow spots on leaves of area Norway maple trees? We have too. The cause is probably Rhytisma or tar spot. While the infection wont kill a tree, it certainly leaves it looking less than aesthetically pleasing. Those yellow spots will eventually turn black and early leaf drop may occur. There isnt anything that can be done at this point in the season, but to prevent it for next year make sure to rake any infected leaves up and either burn them or bag them... for the city to compost. Leaving them to overwinter at the base of trees will likely mean new infections in subsequent seasons. #leafspot #fungalinfection #ldnont

As climate change affects the environment, it also means that many species have to adapt. That might mean moving to different and more hospitable climate, but in the case of trees, relocating is a little difficult. Hence why some scientists are lending a helping hand in the migration department. Time to head north! #treeplanting #climatechange
