Did you know that wood heat is a very nearly carbon neutral heating source? Living trees absorb carbon from the atmosphere and when they die that carbon is released, either in a forest fire or through gradual decay so when you heat your house with wood you are merely tapping into earth's natural carbon cycle to heat your home. Polar Furnace G Class models meet EPA Phase II standards meaning they produce less than 4.5 grams of particulates per hour making a Polar Furnace G Class hydronic heater a pretty environmentally friendly way to heat :)

Updraft vs. downdraft. What’s the difference? An updraft stove has one chamber where the wood is placed and air and gases flow upward through the burning wood and exit via the chimney. Polar’s updraft stoves have fan-induced draft, are simple, robust and clean burning and accept wood from 37 to 72 inches long, depending on the model. In a downdraft stove air is pulled downward through two chambers; an upper chamber where the wood is placed and a second, cast refractory ch...amber below it where the gases created by pyrolysis are superheated. The result is a clean, highly efficient heater that produces very little, if any smoke and produces more btus per cord of wood by burning almost all the gases available. I was asked a very good question today: "Why put a wood stove outside? Don't you want the heat inside your house?" I have to admit that the wood stove we had in the kitchen when I was growing up made the kitchen the coziest room in the house. The back bedroom where I slept? Not so cozy, especially when I woke up with my blankets frozen to the wall :( Not to mention getting up through the night to feed it and having to start it again in the morning, carrying wood into the... kitchen every day, carrying ashes out and constantly having to sweep up the mess. Cleaning the pipes made another big mess and if we didn't keep them clean they'd clean themselves with a chimney fire that made them glow red hot. Not a very safe way to clean the chimney. Although Polar Furnace heaters are CSA approved for indoor installation, most people put them outside. With an outdoor hydronic heater, hot water is piped into the house so the mess and fire hazard stays outside. The hot water is tied into your existing heating system, whether it's a forced air system, hot water radiators or in floor hydronic heat so heat is distributed evenly. Set the thermostat at 70 degrees and every room in the house is 70 degrees, even that back bedroom. One stove can heat multiple buildings as well as your domestic hot water. They can easily be tied into a solar hot water heating system. A correctly sized outdoor hydronic heater is usually stoked twice a day; once in the morning and once in the evening so 3 am feedings and having to light a fire every morning are things of the past. I still like sitting next to a wood stove in someone's kitchen, but when it comes to convenience, versatility, cleanliness and safety I'm sleeping a lot better now with the heater outside than I did as a kid :)

Well, a lot of people have told me they didn't know I've been selling high efficiency wood fired hydronic heaters for the last 6 years so I decided to try and get the word out with this Facebook page. My supplier of furnaces is Polar Furnace, which is located in Sperling, Manitoba. They manufacture both updraft and downdraft hydronic heaters that are CSA certified for outdoor and indoor installations. You can visit my website at www.clearskyenterprises.ca or Polar Furnace's... website at www.polarfurnace.com to learn more about these modern, efficient wood fired heaters. I can also supply insulated pipe, heat exchangers, pumps and other accessories and offer technical assistance and advice on heating your home, outbuildings or other loads with these units. Wood fired technology has come a long way in the last two decades so forget about the old wood hungry, smoke belching stoves that first hit the market 30 years ago and come out and take a look at the modern alternative to high cost heating with fossil fuels or electricity :)
