National Geographic article: It is a fight that means far more than the ability to compete on sport’s grandest stage. In the Iroquois’ eyes, it’s about equality, inclusion, respect, and the expansion of what it means to be a nation in the Olympic and sporting world. The outpouring of support this summer shows that at a grassroots level the lacrosse community has the Iroquois’ back. But now they want that respect from the world. They want to maintain the strongest of their roots to the past, while asserting their place in the future. https://apple.news/AQw_pQDPIQpKmU8ejK4v2KA

After being an official sport in the 1904 and 1908 Olympics, lacrosse was relegated to demonstration sport status in 1928 It was also a demonstration sport in... the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles This rarely-seen footage finds the United States (represented by Johns Hopkins) defeating Canada in the first of a three game series before 75,000 at the Coliseum In truththe crowd was there to see the finish of the marathon, which is seen here interrupting the game late in the 2d half The U.S. would win the best-of-three series; with box lacrosse having taken Canada by storm about 10 months earlier, this would be that country’s last gasp at big-time field lacrosse for many years
