I'm a little late, (life has an annoying habit of getting in the way of my lumbering progress!) but I wanted to thank the six P.A.L. members who came out to participate in their very first litter cleanup on a freezing cold weekend Jan. 23/24. That takes dedication! Especially encouraging was that the cleanups were initiated or inspired by members, not by moi. Wilma Colekessian was the one that recommended the location for the cleanup on Jan. 23. It was a perfect spot in des...perate need of a cleanup! Ephraim Mwaura had already told me that he was eager to get involved so Jan. 23 worked out perfectly for him. It was Michelle Basciano who first put the idea of a "Sushi Hill" cleanup into my head. Then it was the interest shown on our Facebook site by Heidi Berki, Catherine Gorman, Peter Bolton and three of our veterans, Sandy Brosbell and Peggy Bishop-Cicconetti, and Tracy Phillips that got the Jan. 24 cleanup started. I already knew that Doug Grainger and Victoria Reynolds would want to join. Ephraim even took it a step farther and volunteered to do a post about our Jan. 23 cleanup. His write up was an excellent promotion for P.A.L. and he shared the post with different Facebook groups. That was a smart move! Ephraim knew exactly what he was doing! I believe that got us at least ten new members and who knows how many more will come on board as a result. Great initiative, Ephraim! So again, a special thank you, to all the first-timers! You are all awesome! And a regular thank you to everyone else who came out! It wasn't their first cleanup but they also had to brave the very cold weather. They are equally as awesome! I'm talking about Tracy Phillips, Christina Cicconetti, Victoria Reynolds, Doug Grainger, Rose Nimmo Brown, Bruce Brown, Sandy Brosbell and Peggy Bishop-Cicconetti

There are five reasons why deadlier and more destructive wildfires have become the new normal and they're all related to #climatechange

If all of Greenland's ice melts, sea levels would rise an average of six metres enough to swamp many coastal cities. #ClimateAction #GlobalGoals

HEART LAKE COMMUNITY GARDEN Mere words will not do justice to the amazing team of volunteers that have have been doing tremendous work over the last last coupl...e of weeks reinforcing the perimeter fence around the Heart Lake Community Garden to keep off rodents and rabbits. We would like to appreciate Cindee Groves, Christina Cicconetti, Cole Bob McConnell, and Mary-Ellen Churly who have dedicated their time and resources to mobilize fencing materials and install them at the project site. This year's project has been very successful, with alot of support coming from Cindee Groves who has continued to keep the garden in excellent condition. So far we have supplied three weekly harvests to the Heart Lake Community Food Cupboard of fresh produce including Kale, Zucchini, Cucumber, Snow peas, Celery and Beans. More harvest in the coming weeks will include Potatoes, Green Pepper, Eggplants and different varieties of Tomatoes. The objective of this project is to support the Food Bank beneficiaries within the City of Brampton. This year's produce is helping to address increasing food demand due to effects of COVID-19 pandemic with over 25 families currently receiving proceeds from the garden through Heart Lake Community Food Cupboard. The project has received alot of support from the community especially through seedlings donation and volunteers. The City of Brampton through Councillor Doug Whillans has consistently ensured the project is sustained to serve needy Brampton residents over the last three 3 years. Plans are underway to double the size of the garden for next year. The community garden project is donated and managed through Heart Lake United Church and was setup with the support of Peel Regional Paramedic Services If you would like to donate some garden materials for next year's expansion or volunteer your time at the garden please get in touch with Ephraim at [email protected] #ZeroHunger #GlobalGoals
