Nail trimming for dogs. Heres a guide and a couple pictures of dogs quick (which is a blood vessel that runs thru their nail) and picture of nail clippers to use. When you go to trim your dogs nails its best to make sure they are comfortable as you dont want this to be a bad experience for them. Its good to have two people involved, one that will do the trimming and one at their head petting them, giving treats and keeping them calm. Also make sure you have them in a com...fortable position, if not this could cause them to fight you. Do whats best for them to make it a positive experience. Make sure you have a good, sharp pair of nail clippers. Its best to just take a little off at a time so you dont clip to deep on the first clip. Just take your time and go slow. You will see a little dot in the middle of the nail after clipping (picture 3, in a white nail its more of a greyish colour.) When you can really see the dot, I wouldnt cut anymore as you will make the nail bleed. If you do make the nail bleed, dont freak out as it does happen to all of us unfortunately. You can put some flour or baking soda on it to stop the bleeding. Make sure you put a good amount on cause you want to clot it and hold your finger on it for about 30 seconds or so, if it keeps bleeding, keep adding more til it stops. Your dog will forgive you with a good ear rub and a treat Dont forget the dewclaws if your dog has them. They tend to grow long because they dont normally touch the ground and if you fail to cut them, they will eventually grow back into your dogs foot, which is quite painful. With dogs that already have long quicks in their nails, you can only take a small amount of length off before making your dog bleed. If your dogs nails are overgrown then just trim a little off 1-2 times a week and eventually the quick will recede and the nails will return to a proper length. If you dont have nail clippers at home you can use a human nail file. Itll take longer, just file a little bit, check the nail for the quick, and if you dont see it file a bit more until you can get them as short as possible. If you cant do all your dogs nails at once, never fear you can clip them one paw at a time, with other activities or a resting period in between. If you have any questions just ask away

While we are closed, heres a guide to help everyone brush their dogs properly. Its important to make sure you brush right down to the skin. Its best to brush with a slicker brush first and then take a comb to get right down to the skin. If the comb doesnt go thru the hair easily its not brushed out properly. I posted a picture of the brushing chart and a correct brush and comb to use. Have a good day everyone and take care.
