As a way to help others in my area shop secondhand, I've curated a list of brick and mortar stores, online shops, and social media accounts that all sell pre-loved clothing!! I also want to use this post as a reminder that with the rise of more people shopping secondhand, there's still an element of overconsumption, aka buying more than you need to. It can be just as easy overspend when you thrift. Remember: just because an item costs less than it would buying new, doesn't mean you need to buy it Continue reading here: https://www.closettcandyy.ca//where-to-shop-secondhand-fas

Do you have a lot of clothes you just aren’t wearing right now because of the lockdown (or other personal reasons, like perhaps they don’t fit)? Does looking at these clothes overwhelm you, make you feel bad, or prevent you from getting dressed? Would you be more inclined if your wardrobe looked like this: a small(er) collection of items you know you can wear? If you don’t have it in you for a full closet audit / purge (understandably so), I have a tip for you.... GET THEM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT. Out of sight = out of mind. We actually use up our energy when we look at clothes/shoes/accessories we can’t wear. And depending on the reason we can’t wear said clothing (ex: it doesn’t fit), it can actually start to mentally affect our mood and how we feel about getting dressed. I’m going to use Laura Voskamp as an example because we recently talked about this! Here’s what she had to say after I shared this idea in my stories a few weeks ago: I was feeling like getting dressed in the morning was taking me way too long lately, so last night I separated all of my going out tops and tops that don’t lend themselves well to layering and hung them in another room. I hadn’t wanted to move them because they are some of my favourites, but the reality is that’s not how my life looks right now! I’m looking forward to bringing them back in when I have reason to, because I know I’ll be excited to make outfits with them. In the meantime, fingers crossed my mornings get less stressful with fewer pieces to look at. Where to move them? A few ideas... 1 to the back of the closet or a separate section of your closet/a drawer/somewhere you don’t look as much. If you have an open concept closet or if you see all your items when you open your closet doors put a ribbon between the ones you want to wear and the ones you don’t. 2 in another closet or room 3 pack away in a bin (the energy it takes to do is worth the energy you’ll save getting dressed) I recommend packing away clothes that don’t fit or are for a different season. I’ll be sharing a few BTS in stories for how we did this in our home. Let me know how you’re feeling about this in the comments or if you need a little help, we could always book a session (virtual or in-person) Reach out here: www.closettcandyy.ca/contact

It's time to make this official! ClosettCandyy Consignment is a natural extension of my business and more specifically, my Closet Audit service where I help people clean out their closets and get to the root of their wardrobe challenges. When I donate clothing from my client's closets, it's important to me that I choose local organizations who ensure the clothing is put to use rather than discarded. But that doesn't mean everyone wants to donate their clothes and that'...s okay! Sometimes we spend a lot of money on an item and would like to make some of it back and other times we want to make sure an item is well taken care of rather than dropped off at a thrift store. In 2019, after many clients expressed they didn't want their clothes donated for the reasons above, I decided to try and sell them in my Instagram Story. And it was a HUGE hit! Instagram "Story Sales" became a thing, and I even started joining maker POP-UPs at @montrealstreetcollective. #ClosettCandyyConsignment was making a lot of sense, but I didn't have the capacity to open it to the public; it was still a benefit of being my client. UNTIL NOW! I'm currently accepting both men's and womxn's items in all sizes for the remainder of the Winter season and beginning of Spring As someone who used to love working retail, this little venture feels right at home for me. #ClosettCandyy Consignment is a way to help you upcycle your items while making a little money back and introduce my community to quality secondhand clothing, all while taking care of the planet. Who's ready SHOP LOCAL this holiday season?! For all my Kingstonians, I've tried to make this a bit easier on us by compiling a list of Kingston Artists, Businesses, Creatives and Makers into a single blog post. I'm sure you've seen the graphics shared across social media expressing how important it is to shop local as much as you can, but this notion is *especially importantduring a pandemic. And I'm here to drive that point home! This is just some of the magic that can... happens when you shop local... You keep more money in your local economy You celebrate the uniqueness of your community You support local jobs You help the environment You encourage community You conserve your tax dollars You benefit from their experience You invest in entrepreneurship You make your community a destination You positively impact someone's day .... and the list goes on! What did I miss?! To read the full blog post, all you need to do is click the link in bio. Please share with your friends + family + network to help others shop local, too P.S. I'm fully aware I have likely missed some people who should be on that list. If you have any suggestions or edits, please email them to [email protected] https://www.closettcandyy.ca//local-holiday-shopping-a-lis

Today’s look is brought to you by the need to feel like a boss to get some shit done I’ve been avoiding! Will I be leaving the house? Nope. Do I feel like a boss who wants to tackle her to do list? Hell yes, mission accomplished. Clothing and shoes have the power to change our mood. I’ve been struggling to get some work done so I made the choice to get up off the couch, put on a fun outfit, wear a pair of heelsand actually go work in my office... Sometimes making that decisi...on is the hardest part, but we’re always glad we did. Now? I feel fabulous and that work has already been completed Oh and this outfit? It’s all secondhand!
