NEW CAMP FOR TYKES!!!

Hello CLS families, Here is the current state of affairs. The Calgary board of education and other school divisions have canceled gym rentals until at least January at which time they will revisit this policy.... Unfortunately the inability to secure enough gym rentals privately to accommodate all of the Zones has forced CMBA to cancel the season. The CMBA will not be running a fall season. We are currently considering all options for a modified basketball program for this fall/winter. Some of the Zones who may be able to acquire private gym rental are considering various options to run "Cohort" house leagues or training or perhaps both. CLS will continue to explore those options with the various Zones interested in going in that direction. All of these options would be sanctioned by CMBA and would have to meet the strict requirements set forth by CMBA and would not go forward until we have seen how things go with the schools starting back in relation to COVID. In the meantime we will continue to attempt to structure something for our players with safety in mind and would look to implement something in late October or early November if it appears that it can be done properly and safely. We appreciate your patience while we try to find a way to serve our young basketball players during this time and thank you in advance for your willingness to follow the various protocols which will undoubtedly have to be implemented in order to continue working in a safe manner. Hello CLS families, Below is the update on the status of our spring season from CMBA. ... ***CMBA has been informed by the City of Calgary Recreation Dept that all school rentals have been canceled at CBE and CSSD schools up until April 30, 2020 due to Coronavirus (Covid-19) precautions. The Season is delayed in its start by two or three weeks, or one month. If the season is delayed league registration fees would be prorated and refunded to teams on the amount of lost games that were not played during the period of delay. Also, Coronavirus (COVID-19) game procedures would be in place for all games. Proration of team fees would take place at the end of March on March 31st, 2020. Considering a condensed May and June season goes ahead. Thank you for your patience at this time as we watch and wait for further direction from AHS (Alberta Health Services), The Province of Alberta, and the City of Calgary.*** CLS Basketball will be following the lead of CMBA as they are working with Alberta Health Services. At this time we are hopeful we will be able to run a shorter spring season, in that case CLS will reimburse all registrants the difference between the previous fee and prorated amount after March 31, 2020. If it becomes clear that CMBA will not be able to run a spring season, we will be refunding families the full amount paid. If the shortened season goes ahead but you would like to withdraw there will be no penalty for the withdrawal. Please note that we will be doing all refunds at the same time after March 31, 2020. This means that all evaluations for CLS Rep’s on Rep’s Spring basketball program are postponed. The CMBA is also looking at a few different options for the spring season and we should have a decision from them by the end of March. Hello Badgers!! We are happy to announce that Registration and our EARLY BIRD pricing for the upcoming Fall 2019/2020 season is now open, BUT this special discount is only on for a week so don't delay in Registering and paying. You will need to go to the website www.clsminorbasketball.ca and at the top click "Register"and follow the prompts to set up your account (VERY EASY). Once you have set it up, Log in and on the left click "Register" then you will have to choose to r...egister for either the spring season, which starts next week, or the fall season, that starts in September. The Early Bird price for U11/U13/U15 is $375 this year and will go up to $425 after this week, Tykes early bird is $225 and will go up to $250 after this week so don't delay if you want to save big bucks this year! Once you register you MUST pay before the deadline to get the early bird pricing, you cannot just register to get this cost. For payment we are taking etransfers that are to be sent to [email protected]. If for some reason you cannot pay with etransfer please send an email to [email protected] and tell us how you will pay and we will set up a pick up or drop off before the deadline ends. Etransfers are the most convenient and don't cost us fees like other forms of payment allowing us to keep our costs low. Basketball Players!! Registration for the CLS Spring Basketball season is now open. The season starts Mid March with 1 practice a week and 3 separate 3 game tournaments (One in Apr, May and June - Min 9 games) We play in the CMBA Community League in Calgary. If interested please go to our website www.clsminorbasketball.ca and click the "Registration" tab at the top and follow the prompts. The great thing about this format is you only have to commit to 1 night during the week and only 3 weekends between Apr to June, giving you flexibility through spring to do other things. Come play ball!

Mouthguards are a very important piece of equipment, even for basketball players! We have witnessed kids on three different occasions fall facefirst on the court and either break or lose a tooth... It can happen to anyone! Our friends at Chestermere Station Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics and Lifepath Wellness Centre are currently hosting their 3rd annual sports mouthguard clinic! From now until September 28th, custom spots mouthguards are only $40! Mouthguards are available for pick-up one week after the impressions are taken.

Due to this, we won’t have our evaluations until the week of Sept 17th. We are trying to source another venue so we can complete our evaluations soonerstay tuned for more details. Registration for the U17 Juvenile Girls Winter season is now open! The season runs from January 6th to February 24th and is open to girls in grade 10 and up (players must be under 18 as of December 31, 2017). Registration deadline is December 15th and the fee of $250 is due at the time of registration. Good luck to our U15 Boys and U15 Girls teams at provincials in Edmonton this weekend. Both have made CLS history by winning Gold in Div 2, the highest placing of any team we have had. They can both make history again this weekend by collecting a medal in Div 2 provincials. If you are in Edmonton this weekend head down to the saville center and cheer them on!! U15 boys play tomorrow at 430pm then Saturday at 8am, the girls play tomorrow at 6pm and 9pm then Saturday times depend on how they do Friday. Good luck teams!! FEAR THE BADGER!!

Congratulations to the CLS Juvenile boys for taking Silver in the CMBA Juvenile finals today. Also a special thanks to Coach Noah and Coach Jeff for your hard work and dedication to the team. This was the first year we offered a juvenile team and are very proud of the boys. Go Badgers!

Our CLS Juvenile Boys just won their Semi-Final game 31-26 against NCBC Thunder! The boys will be playing for Gold today at 1pm at Hounsfield School (1922 - 14 Avenue NW). Please go support the team if you can - GO BADGERS!

VERY PROUD of our BAGDERS today! Yesterday our teams had 20 wins and 6 losses with 542 points FOR and 343 points AGAINST. Special shout out to the MIDGET girls who scored the most points and had the best FOR/AGAINST totals of 75- 25 with the U11 MINI GIRLS and U13 BOYS 2 teams right behind them. What a great first weekend of seeding rounds, lets work just as hard next Saturday so we give the CMBA some big decisions on what divisions to put us in for the season. Bigger then that I had multiple reports (Yes the CMBA sends people around to games to view teams and fans) of how nice, courtesy and sportsman like our teams and fans were. Great job BADGER family! Lastly we will be sending COOKIE PICK UP TIMES to your coaches who in turn will send to you for pick up this coming THURSDAY. GO BADGERS!!

Congrats to our U17 Juvenile Boys for opening our CLS season going 2-1 in the first seeding round weekend for the 2016/17 season. The boys would have been 3-0 if not for a last sec shot having them loose by 1 point. The points for and against for the 3 games 58 for and 37 against. Way to go guys, good luck next weekend on your second seeding round games. For the rest of our teams they are all working hard for when thier seeding round games begin the weekend after Thanksgiving! GO BADGERS!

The U15 girls witnessed a competitor break her front tooth off at the gumline, when her face hit the floor during a game at Provincials in Edmonton - it CAN HAPPEN!
