How the Jamboree Came to Be... The Cluculz Lake Country Music Jamboree was started by George Garbut in 1998. It began as a Bluegrass festival and ran for 13 ye...ars until George became ill. George passed away in 2011 and over the next few years, the Community Hall fell into disrepair and was no longer suitable to house the event. In 2016 the Cluculz Community Recreation Association received a grant to renovate the hall and local dances and events were brought back. In 2017, The Lakeside Ramblers, a local band who participated in many the past festivals, then rallied community support to bring the festival back as a fundraiser. Monies raised would support continued improvements to the Hall and new events. Renamed the Cluclulz Lake Country Music Jamboree, the festival would feature old and new Country mingled with Bluegrass and Folk music. Interest from the music community was quick to follow with many bands wishing to dedicate their performances to George's memory. Known for his high musical standards, many remember George as a mentor who encouraged young, budding musicians, many of whom could barely play, to keep learning and to strive for success. Over the years, the festival has hosted musicians from far and wide including acts such as Jenny Lester, singer/songwriter, from Smithers and Celtic sensation Spring Rain from Prince George. Organizers hope the Cluculz Lake Country Music Jamboree will remain an intimate and fun community event that George would be proud of.
