Successful last 4-H year for Rachel. At the club level, she was first in both the senior grooming and showmanship. She also placed top of her class with both the heifer and the steer. Along with that, she was Grand Aggregate of the club. At the Regional level, her purebred Shorthorn heifer was overall other breeds champion and the steer placed respectable. Next up, she will be representing her region at provincial judging in August. Although it is a bitter sweet ending to many years in the 4-H program, it's great to see the improvements made and that Shorthorns are getting the recognition which the breed deserves!

Head line reads Char cross steer wins Weyburn 4-H! What it does not tell you in the dam is a Shorthorn raised by Jodi Hawken of Hawken Shorthorns of Glenavon, SK. She and her partner have purebred shorthorns and a commercial herd. Obviously they used a Char bull but it just goes to show you what shorthorn cross genetics can do and the positive hybrid vigor Shorthorns can add to your commercial herd. Crossbreeding increases productivity through enhanced levels of performance for particular traits due to heterosis. Specifically, crossbreeding with Shorthorn cattle offers increased calving ease, docility, fertility, growth and carcass quality. Make the right choice! Choose Shorthorn Beef!
