When it comes to mental health, now more than ever, every action counts. January 28, 2021 #letstalk #mentalhealthawareness

Some people are good at making big changes all at once and other people do better taking small steps to get there. Some people are inspired to forge a new path because the clock signals it’s time; others feel constricted by the idea a new habit has to start on a certain date. When it comes to resolutions or any type of behavior change, we’re all different, there is no one right way. Ask questions, talk about it, give new ideas a chance, and abandon old ones that are no longer serving a purpose.

For many people Christmas is a very happy time which is spent in the company of friends and loved ones, but it is a stressful period. If people experience poor mental health it can be a very difficult period. It can be hard to admit that at such a supposedly happy time of year you’re not feeling great, but sharing how you are feeling with family, friends or somebody you trust can often be the first step towards making things better. In the busy run up to Christmas it’s eas...y to forget to look after ourselves. But there are a number of small steps we can all take to look after our mental health. Cold weather and shorter days can make it difficult to get outside and enjoy some fresh air, but light, regular exercise such as a short walk with friends can really boost your self-esteem and help you feel better. Checking in on somebody who may be feeling lonely and isolated at this time of year will not only help them feel less alone, but also give your own wellbeing a boost too.

#WorldMentalHealthDay2020 Today is World Mental Health Day, it’s a great day to remind everyone that it’s OK to not be ok. Reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, take the time to listen to someone that wants or needs to talk.

COVID has taught us to hold our families and loved ones a little tighter as well as keep our circles a little smaller. Thanksgiving this year will look different for us this year also, but hey... we are getting used to this, aren’t we?! Whether you are getting together virtually or Social Distancing somewhere safely, let’s not forget what Thanksgiving is really about. This holiday of gratitude is centered around giving back as well as pausing to notice and appreciate the thi...ngs we often take for granted, like having a warm place to live, food, clean water, family and friends to love -as well as them love us back. It’s a warm feeling of thankfulness toward the world and those less fortunate. The team here at CMHA-Port Alberni thank all of you for reaching out to one another always, in the efforts of continuing to hold each other up. We are all in this together. See more
