Our first petabase of sequencing data was recorded in December of 2015, 16 years from the creation of the GSC in 1999. In April of 2018, just two years and four months later, we recorded our second. On Sunday, January 24, 2021 we hit another milestonethree petabases of sequencing data! What's a petabase? This data-viz from staff scientist Martin Krzywinski helps explain: https://www.bcgsc.ca/news/3000000000000000

We all have a responsibility to take precautionary measures in order to help stop the global transmission of COVID-19. The GSC is helping our employees to find ways to attend work safely, including working remotely. We are also moving in-person gatherings to virtual interactions, and all tours of our facilities have been cancelled until further notice. For now, we will continue to accept and sequence samples, and maintain all functionality including database and analytical ca...pacities, including prioritizing clinical and Personalized OncoGenomics pipelines. Please be patient with us if you experience a delay in service during this challenging time. We will continue to monitor advice from B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer and we will be in touch with you to the best of our ability as soon as possible. Should you have any questions, please write to us at [email protected], or visit our website or Twitter channel for regularly updated information about the GSC. https://www.bcgsc.ca/news/gscs-response-covid-19 See more

Genomics is best understood as analyzing an individual’s DNA to better understand their cancer. - Thanks to developments in this field from doctors like Marco M...arra and Janessa Laskin, we can now better understand why someone’s cancer is growing, which leads to better treatment options for patients in #BC. https://bit.ly/2HBYNLx See more
