So many questions. This answers some of them! https://www.canada.ca//canadas-covid-19-economic-response-
In order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 (Corona virus) we have reduced our staff in the office to one person who will be here every weekday between 10am 3pm. The rest of our team members are working remotely, full-time from home. We will all have access to our emails. If you come to drop off or pick up personal taxes or corporate documents there is a bell at the front door. Ring it and someone will come to the front to help you. If you arrive outside the hours stated above,... or cannot make it during these hours, please call our main line at 780-457-9331 leaving a detailed message and we can figure something out together. Our main priority in making these steps is to protect our clients and our staff. We thank you for accepting these steps and being part of the solution. It is our top priority to make sure all our client work is completed on time and that no deadlines are missed during this crisis. We appreciate your patience in these troubling times.
CRA: You owe us money. It's called taxes. Me: How much do I owe? CRA: You have to figure that out.... Me: I just pay what I want? CRA: Oh, no, we know exactly how much you owe but you have to guess that number too. Me: What if I get it wrong? CRA: You go to prison!
For our clients, I was made aware yesterday of a new scam that we should be aware of and warning our clients about. It is a fake CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) demand letter saying that if you do not pay, they will put a lien on your house. For those of us that have seen real demand letters, this is very real looking. The last 3 digits of the SIN was blanked out and was correct. They included the slip to pay at the bank. After much research and several calls with the CRA, the on...ly real differences was that the coding/routing code on the bottom of the payment slip would direct the money to a non-CRA account. But how would anyone know that is not privy to CRA's routing code? There was also no mention of the option to pay online through CRA. So if anyone receives this letter, call us and we will check the balance through Represent a client on the CRA website to be make sure. See more
This is interesting! The CRA scammers called one of our personal tax clients lasts week. Our client told them he didn’t know anything about his taxes and to call his accountant at this point he gave the scammers our number. The scammers then called him back a few minutes later and pretended they were us! It was even our phone number that showed up on his call display so they have a way to mask the telephone number they are calling from. So dirty!
6 days left for personal taxes. Get them in! :)
April 30th. Don’t be late! If you have a refund get it. If you owe, it must be paid by 30th to avoid paying interest to the CRA.
I have to admit, some of my clients are cooler than others especially in really fast cars!!!
New companies that connect to a professional accountant before they start operations are 89% more likely to succeed!
I just wanted to show everyone the latest attempt that fraudsters are using to get your information and/or money from you! One of my clients received this in their email yesterday. Fraud!
The new changes for the Alberta Employment Standards Code can be found here. Let us know if you have any questions we can help with. https://www.alberta.ca/employment-standards-changes.aspx
This might sound like good news but let's see what they have changed in their plans to eliminate the income sprinkling option for small businesses. This might j...ust be a cover so they can get away with their initial blow to the hard working middle class that is the backbone of this country. See more
First they attack the middle class small business owners with the income splitting option and now they attack our most vulnerable low income earners with this! ?????
Dear clients and friends, as most of you know, we have been very busy in the last few months with the move to our new and improved office. We ran out of room in our old office which made this move very necessary. We now have more than twice the office space which will help resolve many of the issues we were having in our old space. We are very proud of our new office and wanted to take a moment to share a few pictures of our new place with you. Thank you all for being patient with us during this time. Make you day great!
I had a corporate client ask me the other day why he should not pay for his families groceries using his corporate bank account. He thought it was just because it makes the accounting harder to process but that has nothing to do with it. The real reason is that when/if that company gets audited, we want his company's books to be as clean as possible, including keeping all personal expenses out of the picture. Although we can record those groceries the correct way in the books, I know from experience that it will make that CRA auditor much happier not seeing those expenses in the company and a happy auditor is worth his or her weight in gold when you are in the middle of a financial audit!
Beware!!! This is the latest scam that one of our clients has received. It starts with an email (shown below) with a link to a web-stie (shown below). DO NOT FALL FOR THIS! The CRA will never ask you for most of these details but especially not for your credit card info and your ATM Pin Number!!! If you ever question anything like this, please give us a call and we will be happy to help you through it.
To those of you who have an amazing admin staff, you will know the excitement we have to our Suhad coming back to us after 2 weeks of holidays. It will always surprise you when you realize just how much they do for you while they are gone. Much appreciation for this woman! She is amazing!
Just a reminder, the children's fitness and arts tax credits have been reduced to $500 for 2016 but are not being eliminated until 2017. Make sure you claim everything you can while you can.
