Eight years ago next week, I lost my sister to suicide. She was highly successful, a brilliant nurse-midwife bringing numerous life into the world, had a hilariously dry sense of humor, and loved her family deeply. Every year I miss her with all my heart. I manage cPTSD and depression, but this time of year can throw me off, so I've learned to create a plan and start about a month ahead and run it through the holidays. By having a plan, I don't need to take time off ...(unless that's part of the plan), and I can't continue to be productive at work and engaged as a parent, and take time and space as needed to grieve, in whatever way it shows up. In doing this, it allows me to access memories, mementos and be support to my own family who also grieves this time of year. In doing that, I have better access to the fun, joy and meaningful memories I and my family have of her, and I love that. It honours her. Do you have a traumaversary plan? See more
