Big shoutout to @nadia.alteme on achieving her first chin up EVER. Not only did she bang out her first ever, but she did 4 sets of 2 consecutive reps during yesterday’s workout. Taking a glimpse into a recent training session with one of my youth athletes on his return to play journey. Andre and I have been working together on a biweekly basis since June to rehab an ACL injury sustained earlier this year. Given his knee anatomy his orthopaedic surgeon and physio @ab.physiotherapy have opted for the non-surgical method for rehab and he is doing awesome with his progress. In our time together we’ve worked hard at reinforcing core stability to allow hi...m to load his hips better with movement to take unnecessary stress off the knees with activity. In addition to increased muscle mass and strength around the knee, a huge part of our programming has been teaching Andre’s body how to first absorb force, absorb it quickly, and now we’re continuing to progress with our power work by adding in some more explosive change of direction work so his knee can meet the high demands of soccer. Andre is a quick learner, and a very diligent young athlete. In between our sessions he is always on top of his 3x at home strength routine and daily exercise homework. This type of work ethic has allowed him to recently receive full clearance to return to contact play for soccer from both his orthopaedic surgeon and physiotherapist, so huge congrats to Andre on that milestone! #strengthandconditioning #ACLrehab #rehabilitation #returntoplay #strength #plyometrics #power #agility #vancouver #bcsoccer #soccer

HUGE congrats to Melinda on some big milestones over this past week. 1- Our first time exploring the Arm Bar was last Thursday which led to some T spine DOMS in a way she’s never felt before (coach is very happy about this one) 2- Her first time using the trap bar EVER was today and she nailed her deadlifts. ... 3- This past week marked 3 consecutive sessions with zero clicking, popping or grinding sensations in the shoulder joint showing me that the mobility work and targeted strength and stability efforts are paying off. For some context, Melinda has been rehabbing a shoulder injury from a car accident a few years back and felt she wasn’t making any progress with her previous routine. My assessment showed that where her shoulder was sitting and the way she moved it in space, especially overhead, was not working out too well for her...likely from years of compensation due to her accident. We’re now 10 sessions into her KIN active rehab and not only is her shoulder feeling loads better, but she’s expressed how much she’s loved getting back into strength training and purposeful movement. Client highlight. Congrats to @hodsonkaitlin for hitting some trap bar deadlifts for the first time in this past week. The hinge is something we started working on in person just before closing down back in March. Kaitlin has been awesome about doing her at home training plan, and making the most out of the two 10lb dumbbells and bands that she has. The dedication and consistency has allowed us to make some solid progress in the few training sessions we’ve done since reopeni...ng by being ready to progress lifts from the get go. Another big achievement, she recently did her first long run (15km) with no hip, knee or shin pain for the first time in a long time. Thanks for putting up with my constant reinforcement for hip mobility and strength training on your own time!
