Brene Brown: You cannot successfully numb emotions. When you numb the painful emotions, you also numb the positive emotions. What would be different for us if we allowed it all instead of numbing?... Unconditional love is a hard emotion to get to when our kids yell, scream, tantrum, don’t eat their dinner, complain, don’t listen, talk back, storm off etc... It seems almost impossible sometimes, it sure did for me. Try this:... 1- Write down all of the thoughts leading to frustration/anger/resentment 2- Notice how those thoughts in #1 are just thoughts. They are blocking you from feeling love and connection toward your child 3- Create some intentional thoughts: what thoughts would lead to feelings of love and connection for you? Focus on those. Which behaviour of your child is the biggest struggle for you? Mine is below
