As part of the drainage system, stormwater ponds have one job: To reduce the risk of flooding in our neighbourhoods. Once frozen over, a stormwater facility may look safe, but it's what's below the surface that makes it different from regular ponds. CDES is advising the public to stay off of stormwater retention ponds at all times Even when the ice appears thick, it can still be dangerous and unpredictable. If someone falls through the ice, do not go on the ice and try to ...pull them out... You may fall in too! Get help fast by calling out for help and calling 9-1-1. 2130 hrs - CDES crews currently on scene fighting a fire at the Coaldale Waste Transfer station.
Strong work by Coaldale firefighters last night as they battled frigid temperatures to bring a fire in a multi-unit residential structure under control. Thanks to all our firefighters for their effort and Picture Butte Emergency Services for providing mutual aid support. In total 21 firefighters were on the scene to contain the fire.
Did you know that Coaldale’s volunteer firefighters can receive up to a $1000 a year property tax rebate from their residential tax bill? We are accepting applications until the end of February. On Friday, Dec 18th CDES held its Annual Awards Ceremony and Banquet. Although we had to celebrate virtually this year, it was still a great evening to acknowledge, award, and thank all of our firefighters for their dedication and commitment in 2020. 2020 was an extremely difficult year for our service, however thanks to the dedication and resilience of our firefighters, our families and residents, we were able to get through it together. Amazing support today from everyone! We were able to collect $7572 today for the Coaldale Food Bank. This was more than double what we collected last year! Thank you to the Bargain Shop for partnering with us again for another successful fundraiser. A big thank you to Subway and Pizza Hut. Both of these restaurants provided food for all of the volunteers that were hard at work today.
Don’t forget to swing past the Bargain shop today. Coaldale and District Emergency Services Volunteer Firefighters Association will be stationed outside the Bargain Shop until 4:00 graciously accepting toy and cash donations for this Christmas Season. All donations will be given to the Coaldale Foodbank!
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our own. Captain Craig Wilson passed away earlier this evening (Dec 3) after a brief battle with cancer. Capt. Wilson was awarded his 30-years of service award this morning in a short ceremony at his house, followed by a parade of fire trucks past his house. We will forever be in debt for the service Capt. Wilson has given to our community over the past 30 years. He was extremely proud to be a firefighter with the Coaldale and District Emergency Services, he gave everything he had to this service and ultimately paid the ultimate sacrifice for it. He was a great man, a great Captain, was looked up to by many, and taught us so much over the years. He will be dearly missed by all of us. Rest in peace Capt, we'll take it from here.
