I've been thinking today a lot about gratitude. I think it goes hand in hand with success, TRUE success, because do we really feel like we've made it until we sit and give thanks for it? It is so hard to know when we've reached the success that we desire. Sure we can tick off boxes on a list of wants and needs, but that doesn't always lead to a feeling of having "made it." Maybe there are some of us who may never feel that - and that's ok. Some people are always striving! They inspire me! But no matter where we are in our road to success, however intangible that destination may be, we can always take a moment and give thanks for where we are, and how far we have come. #gratitude #gratitudepractice #roadtosuccess #beingthankful

In my old life in the not-for-profit world, my boss often asked me to do the reference checks for prospective employees. It was a task I did NOT like. There was something that felt so awkward about it! But I had a script that I followed and that was that. We employed a lot of summer students so I ended up doing these calls A LOT. Now that Im a landlord part of the job is to seek out and assess prospective tenants and I am SO THANKFUL for the experience of, essentially, cold... calling strangers and asking them to talk about their friend, employee, tenant, etc. Now I have no issues using one of the great scripts from Keyspire for vetting prospective tenants, or even going off script and just letting these people talk. Because they often tell me all I need to know about a person, and truly help me decide if we should move forward with a tenancy. Ive found out some very valuable information this way - good and bad. So dont take this part of the job lightly! It may not be enjoyable, and yes, it can be downright awkward sometimes, but making these phone calls, being diligent about talking to ALL references, can save you a lot of hassle.
