"Jessica Chen was an active young adult at Coastal, readily available to step into opportunities and learn and grow along the way. It became obvious that this was more than serving alongside her schooling, this was her calling. She accepted the Lord’s call to devote herself to His work and in 2017 we as elders had the joy of laying hands on her, commissioning her into a life of fulltime ministry. She has since become Pastor Jess to countless children, leading many of them int...o their own personal decision with Christ, as well as stepping into the waters of baptism with them. Her creative talents and zeal for imparting truth continues to challenge not only children, but adults as well." - Pastors Dave & Cheryl Koop ---- Join with us as we continue the story of how God has brought each of our current Coastal pastors into the role that they now are. "When we talk about addictions, most people will look at it from a negative standpoint. But what if you could be addicted to something positive? In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul describes a certain group of people who had an addiction. But it was not to alcohol, drugs or gambling that they were addicted to. Their addiction was giving: I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to nthe ministry of the saints,) (1 Corinthians 16:15)." (Image Note: Group photos were taken prior to COVID restrictions) "I thank God so much for bringing these goof balls into my life, a group of friends that not only have fun (like, a looot lol) together but also share all the good and bad moments in life. It’s just so good to have friends sharing the same faith, same hope and growing spiritually together. I’ve got so much wisdom from you guys. I don’t really like to say the word love, but i guess you guys are just too special ...and important to me that I won’t feel cringy at all when I say I love you. You guys have turned me from a girl who enjoys being by herself way too much into a girl who enjoys even just being in the same space with y’all no matter where we are. Big changes in life are always scary, but I know God has a great plan for me and He’s always looking after me, and I have this family in Christ to walk with me on this path to the unknown even if we’re on different sides of the world " - Ann Y. --- Life Groups are more than a place to dig deeper into God's Word, it's also a place to form genuine friendships. "Our worship ministry has been an intentionally devoted team, not only to their musical skills, but also in the integrity of their Christian journey. They spend countless hours practicing and in prayer, knowing the importance of individually ministering to the Lord first in order to have a pure heart of worship each week. It was based on a nudging of the Holy Spirit that we contacted Brad and Rebecca Bergman, knowing that if it was God’s will, it would be a confirmation for t...hem to join the Coastal team as the music minister. Five years later, in 2015, we as elders, laid hands on Brad and ordained him as a minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Since then he has continued to bring strength to our expanded worship ministry as well as step into the position of our Commercial campus pastor. His ability to make what is difficult seem effortless has been a constant anchor to the many he ministers to." - Pastors Dave & Cheryl Koop ---- Join with us as we continue the story of how God has brought each of our current Coastal pastors into the role that they now are. Coastal has had the privilege of serving our friends at Haro Park Centre for over 10 years. It has been an incredibly hard year for both their staff and residents, as it’s been one of the care homes in Vancouver that has been hit by COVID-19. Along with our prayers and support, we are so thankful that we are still able to maintain community with them through our online weekend services. They join us on Sundays through our YouTube channel, and have been able to connect with the Coastal prayer team over the phone to help them through this tough season. Haro Park is apart of our Coastal family and we are here to help, however that may look.

"During the first few years of Coastal Church, we heard others tell us there would never be a children’s ministry in the heart of the city of Vancouver. We are still thankful that we could see through the eyes of faith what God saw kids. And many of them. This began a deep and prayerful search for a minister for our children. And although they were newlyweds and lived in Manitoba, Chris and Kristy Karuhije obeyed the Lord and accepted the invitation to join the growing tea...m at Coastal Church in downtown Vancouver in 2011. Two years later we had the honour of laying hands on him, ordaining him into a pastoral life of service to the Lord. Both Pastor Chris and Kristy are devoted to God’s Word and have continued to grow in leadership. Pastor Chris now oversees all that pertains to Family Life." - Pastors Dave & Cheryl Koop ---- Join with us over the next two weeks as we continue the story of how God has brought each of our current Coastal pastors into the role that they now are. Jesus wants you to know this afternoon that if you abide in Him, you will produce patience. Isn’t that good news? But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23

Coastal Church 07.08.2020

Pastor Dave is talking all about the fruit of gentleness this weekend. Any guesses on which fruit he's picked to represent it? Gentleness is defined in the dictionary as the quality of being tender, amiable, considerate and kind in disposition. In terms of the fruit of the Spirit, gentleness is strength under control, a meekness which involves showing humility towards God and others. Jesus is the supreme example of gentleness. He gave us the blueprint to follow and taught u...s how we can display this fruit in our day-to-day lives. Saturday at 5:00PM Sunday at 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM Sunday at 5:00 PM (Spanish Service) Our team is waiting to welcome you at live.coastalchurch.org, facebook.com/coastalchurch/ and youtube.com/coastalchurchvancouver/

"When your patience is tested in the circumstances of life, an attitude of gratitude will preserve you." - Pastor David Koop Do you find yourself lacking patience or running out of it constantly? During our current series, "Living Beyond Yourself" we've learned that is the Holy Spirit who produces that kind of fruit in our lives. We were never made to produce it ourselves! This past weekend, Pastor @davidkkoop, shared three great examples to encourage and challenge us to live... by this characteristic of the Fruit of the Spirit called patience: 1. Patience with our circumstances 2. Patience with people 3. Patience with God Don't miss out on this message! We pray it will be of encouragement to you in whichever circumstance you face. Head over to our website, Coastal App or YouTube channel to get the latest message, "Patience" - Available now!

From the earliest stages of his Christian walk, Fari Ghaem-Maghami has had a heart for anyone who could use his helping hand, whether it be in prayer or active support. With a call into full time ministry for the Lord, he faithfully served in administrative roles at Coastal prior to accepting a position at Union Gospel Mission, where we, as his pastors, alongside UGM, had the privilege of laying hands on him, commissioning him before God into a life of service in 2011. With ...gained experience, and an even deeper conviction to serve, he, along with his wife, Angela, accepted the call to become our Crosstown campus pastor, which also grew into a ministry known as Eden Café, a social enterprise in the Downtown Eastside. Pastor Fari continues to minister to those whom he has known for years as well as bring great compassion to those he meets for the first time. - Pastors Dave & Cheryl Koop ---- Join with us over the next two weeks as we continue the story of how God has brought each of our current Coastal pastors into the role that they now are. "Instant gratification has robbed everyone of patience and the advancement of technology has been a big culprit. Life Groups are amazing examples of what it is to Live Beyond Yourself. Long time members of our Coastal family, Mike and Jennifer D., experienced this first hand when, after almost a year of symptoms, doctors diagnosed Jennifer with a brain tumour. In June of this year, after months of fatigue, dizziness and increasing weakness on my left side, I was diagnosed with a meningioma; a benign brain tumour. On July 25th I was operated upon and thankfully the tumour was successf...ully removed. After 3 nights in the hospital, I was able to go home to recover. We were told the recovery process takes 2-3 months and for the first few weeks I was not able to do alot, I couldn’t even get my own breakfast! Our Life Group and friends were with us in prayer, but also in a practical way, bringing us meals 4 days of the week for an entire month. It really helped our family as my husband was able to support my recovery instead of worrying about food for our family. We have had the privilege of serving in missions for years, and it was so beautiful seeing the body of Christ come together and serve and love on us in this way, we are so thankful. Jennifer D. Life Groups are where genuine friendships and connections happen within our church community. We have Groups meeting both in person and also online, over video platforms like Zoom. We would love to help you find a Life Group! Send us a message or visit https://coastalchurch.org/life-group/

"As Coastal Church grew, so did the need for discipleship, as many young adults were compelled to live a life devoted to Christ. Karen Wong was one of those young adults, and in a deep sense of purpose and obedience, we had the privilege of ordaining her into fulltime ministry in 2013, after 10 years of deepening her own personal walk with her Lord, and discipling many others. To this day, although she may be young in age, the title ‘Mama Karen’ is aptly used and countless li...ves have already been touched by Pastor Karen’s consistency, kindness and faithfulness. "As God continued to bring increase to Coastal, the need for deeper care and personal commitment for our small groups was evident. James Fam, along with his wife, Michelle, were new parents who had a heart for God’s house. If there was a need, James was there. If there was a leader needed to birth a new area of ministry, James was there. Not only was he a team player for those who had already been working in this harvest field, he was able to bring others along and encourage ...them to devote themselves to the Lord’s work. In 2010, we had the joy of ordaining James into full-time ministry and has continued to be a source of strength for our entire church family. How can we have peace internal and live in the peace OF God in every season? This kind of peace is highly related to where we set our minds to, what we meditate on and where we put our trust. There is lasting peace for those who love your teachings. Nothing can make those people stumble. - Psalm 119:165

Pastor Dave dug deep into what faithfulness means this past weekend. What is faithfulness, how do we know that God is truly faithful and, as Christians, what are those things that we are to remain faithful to? This series on the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) is teaching and reminding us again of the foundations of our Christian life. "From the earliest years of Coastal Church we prayed earnestly for someone to assist us, who was older than we were. Someone who could bring wisdom and years of experience. God brought us Pastor Brian and Christine Taylor. They were and still are an answer to our prayer and a blessing to our entire church family. Pastor Brian understood the weight of responsibility that was on our shoulders as lead pastors, as he had been in that position himself for many years. Yet, out of o...bedience to the Holy Spirit, and with a heart of joy, they were called to walk with us, submitting to the vision given to another minister. His prayer and dedication continues to be a gift to us all and oversees our Prayer Ministry. Both he and Christine’s hospitality has brought a sense of family to so many." - Pastors Dave & Cheryl Koop ---- Join with us over the next two weeks as we continue the story of how God has brought each of our current Coastal pastors into the role that they now are.
