Hey CMA, we hope you are all enjoying your last week of the winter break. Remember to be kind and go find some snow to play in. See you back in class on Monday, January 11th.
Happy Holidays! We are getting really festive here on campus. Thanks to all the staff and students who got into the spirit of the season. Wishing everyone a safe and joyful winter break!
Hard to believe this hike happened just 3 days ago. What a beautiful sunny afternoon we had on Friday for our hike to Slhaney. Big thanks to the teachers and CMA super mom Shaelene for leading the hike and taking these amazing pictures we now get to share.
As part of our study of cell structures, the grade 8 science class conducted an experiment to extract DNA from strawberries. Students used their knowledge of cellular membranes and the effect that soap has on disrupting the lipid bilayer that makes up the membrane to break open the nuclear membrane and release the DNA which can be collected. In grade 9, students are learning about cellular division and mitosis. Arguably, the most important part of cell division is the duplication of DNA. We took the opportunity to extract DNA from strawberries so that we could stare in awe at this amazing chemical that makes life possible.
It is dissection day in grade 12 Anatomy & Physiology class. Some students were really excited about dissecting a pig heart, others were feeling...well... You fill in the blank
Some impressive pieces coming out of the CMA Art classes and club this year. Big thanks to Ms. Harris for inspiring our students to challenge themselves, try something new, and be creative.
Can anyone identify which Newton’s Law these grade 12 students are testing? Hint: it is not the 1st one. Hint: it has to do with mass, acceleration, and force. Come on flex those brain muscles!
Big thanks to CMA Alumni Alex, Taya, Nic, Leo, Cameron, and Ian for visiting campus and chatting with our grade 9 Career Ed Class. It was great to hear what you would tell your grade 9 selves, to hear about your favourite CMA memories, and get some solid advice on remaining flexible and taking a wide breadth of high school courses.
One of our creative grade 7 students designed their poppy on Tinkercad. Lest we forget.
A great game today at lunch in the beautiful Quest gymnasium. Big shout out to the girls volleyball team and coaches for their hard work and improvement.
Have you heard of Netball? Our students have been playing it all week but most had never heard of it before. Netball is like basketball but there is no dribbling, so lots of passing the ball. It is played by over 20 million people in more than 80 countries.
Some fun photos to start the day on a rainy (wait that is snow) Monday morning. We love the creativity and fun our students infused into their French skits this past week. Smiles for miles...
Big thanks to CMA Dad Tom Chatfield for coming back to campus (even after his son graduated last year) to lead our engineering class through a 4 week series of fun activities to study aerospace. This week we got to build wings!
We chatted with CMA Alumnus, Nic Beaulieu this week. Read on to see what he is up to now and how he formed such strong bonds with his classmates.
