I am often asked ‘What is IMS?’ Intramuscular stimulation (IMS) is a technique that uses thin acupuncture needles to stimulate muscle. The needle produces a twitch response in tight bands of muscle creating a ‘neurological reset’ of the tissue, allowing it to sit in a more relaxed or lengthen state. It’s about time I introduce myself! I am Laurie Block, Owner and Physiotherapist at Coast Range Clinic. I have 14 years experience in Orthopaedics, Sports, Post-Operative and Exercise based Rehab. I have a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, a Masters in Physical Therapy, and additional certifications in IMS, Acupuncture and Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. I have travelled Internationally as Team Physiotherapist with Olympic level athletes on the Canadian Ski and Snowboard te...ams. I am a mountain athlete and an ACMG Ski Guide, although I grew up in the flatlands running, sailing and competing in triathlons. I know injury personally as well as professionally. I am a healer, educator and advocate for ‘my people’ who are often navigating the medical system and rehab process. I am invested and passionate about doing my job well and helping others understand injury, pain, performance and health. I feel lucky to call Squamish home and lead the life I do, with my husband and senior hound dog by my side.
