One of the most damaging impacts of residential schools is the loss of indigenous language(s). That is why we feel it’s so important to support language revitalization. sesmélt Fern Gabriel has been working tirelessly to revitalize the hnqminm (down river dialect) language in our communities and in our schools. One initiative in partnership with the Langley School District was to fund the creation of a hnqminm counting book i e kxet k qelc Let’s Count the Moon by sesmélt. You can purchase this book through Coast Salish Arts & Cultural Society and all proceeds go towards language revitalization. Please contact Phyllis Atkins at [email protected] to get your copy. In addition you can visit this website to read along with sesmélt at https://www.sd35.bc.ca//aboriginal-progr/learn-henqeminem/
