These are strange times. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the next 2 weeks (at least) will be very quiet. Many small businesses, including the bowling centers, will be closing until the end of the month. Once life is back to normal, please support these businesses to help them survive these unusual times. Our next zone event is scheduled for Sunday, April 5th. At this point, we have not postponed it, but we are revisiting that every day as more information is available. We ask that everyone follow the guidelines and recommendations so that the spread of this virus is contained as much as possible. And please remember to check on your loved ones, especially those in high risk groups, to make sure they are OK.
Due to COVID-19, we are all in a place we do not feel as comfortable as we once did. All of us have our opinion on the things that could be done to make it seem... better, our society gives us the levity to express our opinion how we wish, no opinion is right or wrong, it is an opinion, do I agree with all the comments, you can guess that answer, but I do know we as a society will work through this together and come our stronger at the other end. Many businesses are closing to allow their employees time to deal with the COVID-19 in a way each of us feels appropriate. I am a small business owner and I have seen a steep down turn in business at this time, NEBs Fun World closing and following the timelines the Ontario Government has imposed on schools to be closed is a business decision they had to do due for their reason. As was announced by the O5PBA in its COVID-19 statement a couple of days ago, we too, are going off the guidance of the Government of Ontario, Government of Canada and the World Health organization. Our next provincial championships are not until Easter weekend which is after the current shutdown recommended by one or more of these organizations. The people who volunteer to be Directors of the Ontario 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association and the office staff are working on behalf of the members of our association, but please remember these are volunteers many of which have their own jobs/businesses that are affected by COVID-19. We have a scheduled conference call on Wednesday evening and we will release a update to our COVID-19 Statement shortly after the meeting. I remember back in my early days of bowling and running my hands across the steel ball that was sitting in a water bath, getting my hands all wet and then drying them off on the towels provided by the centre, how times have changed, a number of years ago this was deemed a health hazard and removed from most if not all centres across the country. Prior to COVID-19 we all did the high fives as a show of support for each other in our efforts to do well on the lanes at our great game of 5 pin bowling, will that change, I sure it will, do I know how, not a clue, but I bet you we as a sport will come out of this stronger that we ever have been. Today is a baby shower for my first grand child, leading up to this our family has been planning it for months, in the last week the number of those who had replied they were coming for one reason or another many were unable to attend. We even posted a sign that said, Due to COVID-19 we ask that there be NO HUGGS, NO HANDSHAKES and NO KISSES, but we truly appreciate you and our best wishes. I have changed how I greet people, how I open a closed door, is it right? For me it is, each of us, have our own way of dealing with COVID-19. Am I concerned what the world brings for the bundle of joy growing in my step daughters tummy, you bet your ASS I am, but I know, based on how society has gotten through other issues in the past, we will be a changed society, will be stronger and we will make it.
