Thanks to a garden club member for the share, I have been laughing about this one since I saw it! These bats really do look like they are putting on some dramatic dance moves! When you too are done laughing, join me in celebrating these wonderful little critters! They are voracious predators of mosquitoes and other garden pests (devouring 600-1000 mosquitoes per hour!), are very elusive and generally stay away from people, and are great plant pollinators. There are nine species of bats in Alberta. We can help support bats by providing bat houses, keeping fresh water out near their houses, and generally just letting these mammals live their lives without disturbance. Some of these plants in the greenhouse are really early risers! Did you know that we produce several thousand strawberry plants each year? We grow around 10 varieties that represent the best in hardiness and production for our climate. This year might be your year to start a strawberry patch! We typically start stocking potted strawberries at Cobblestone in mid March. Limited numbers of bare root will also be available until first week of April. Just yummmmmmmm!!

Micro greens are so easy to grow, all it takes is a bit of clean seed and soil, a tray and dome, a mister and water, and a bright spot in the house! If your fur baby just likes to sit but doesnt chew, promote symbiosis (and keep the soil in the pot!) by covering the soil of the plant with a rubber tree ring or landscaping fabric.
