Hi everyone ! It’s been a while since I’ve made a post on here. I decided to take some time off social media - was feeling like I needed a cleanse from it! I highly recommend doing this every now and then- it can be a powerful way to disconnect from various pressures and refocus on ourselves. . . . On another note I wanted to share with you what counselling in person is looking like these days in order to follow COVID-19 safety protocols. We social distance in the offic...e with the door open to help with ventilation (there’s nobody else in this building just the client and myself which helps to keep that door open). Also we both wear masks during the session. This is mandatory. You will receive an email prior to your appointment confirming that you do not have any flu/cold like/Covid symptoms or have been in contact with anybody that tested positive, or have been out of the country. Everything is sanitized in between clients. As a result it is important that you arrive at the exact time of your appointment so that we can make time for this. No waiting room is available at this time for safety purposes. . . Remember that if in person is not an option for you we can always do telephone sessions or video sessions. . . . #healthylifestyle #covid_19 #covidprotocols #healthfirst #healing #reflection #safetyfirst #psychotherapy #psychotherapist #counselling #counsellor #mentalhealth #emotionalhealth See more

Music. . It can be healing. Whether you’re just listening to it or learning how to play an instrument. It’s a wonderful form of #selfcare . During therapy sessions I really encourage my clients to get on some kind of self care routine. And this includes doing simple things like having a tea, trying something new, or spending time on a hobby. We often make excuses telling ourselves we do not have time. Or are simply not interested. The reality is we are not making the time f...or it, and because of a lack of this in our schedules we are quicker to fall into burnout. But we can prevent it. By engaging in behaviour activation (pushing yourself to do an activity you don’t feel like doing with the purpose of becoming engaged and being healthy) we start creating new ways of thinking in our brain that boost up those feel good emotions, which then encourages us to continue engaging in that behaviour. . Can you make a commitment to engage in one self care activity daily for the next week? See more

Feeling the September chills anyone? . . A lot of people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). There’s thing thing called coping ahead. What that means is having a game plan for struggles you know may happen in the future by a particular trigger. In this case SAD. So what can we do to prepare ourselves?... . structure your days . practice mindfulness . acknowledge when you are isolating . make social plans even if you don’t feel like it . start a hobby or a new activity you’ve been wanting to try out . distract with movies, talking on the phone, puzzles, games, reading, etc. . exercise . be compassionate with yourself!! . Of course doing all of this might sound overwhelming. But making an effort to do one thing daily can go a long way. Make a commitment. . You got this! See more

How about that healthy breakfast? . Eating nutritious meals and getting all the vitamins we need are part of maintaining our mental health HEALTHY! Did you know there’s tons of research out there that says what we put in our bodies affects our concentration levels, our ability to cope with stress, and of course overall energy to tackle your day. Although I admit I love coffee for the taste and the energy boost, caffeine isn’t your best friend as it increases anxiety. So how ...about we take some extra time during the week to meal prep? Anybody in on this with me? I’m making a commitment to start a healthier meal plan starting tomorrow! cuz today I gotta grocery shop . . #galtlove #kwawesome #wrawesome #kwfamous #kitchenerwaterloo #waterlooregion #dtklove #dtk #shopsmall #supportlocal #bipoc #diversityandinclusion #dtkitchener #kwhealth #kwlocal #explorewr #locallyowned #explorewaterlooregion #kwhealth #healthandwellness #counselling #psychotherapy

What’s so special about essential oils? Other than they smell fantastic? . Essential oils are a great strategy to use to help regulate difficult emotions. Why? Because they engage our sense of smell. Now when we are experiencing emotions that are outside of our window of tolerance we have a hard time grounding ourselves and sometimes require going back to basics and focusing on the here and now. By engaging in the scent of essential oils we engage our focus on what is happeni...ng in the present moment training our brain to become mindful. . . . . #galtlove #kwawesome #wrawesome #kwfamous #kitchenerwaterloo #waterlooregion #dtklove #dtk #shopsmall #supportlocal #bipoc #diversityandinclusion #dtkitchener #kwhealth #kwlocal #explorewr #locallyowned #explorewaterlooregion #counselling #therapy #psychotherapy #healing #holistichealth #holistichealing

Therapy is sometimes the last resort for folks. You’ve tried everything and nothing is working. Therapy is no joke. It’s raw emotions, being vulnerable with a stranger, talking about difficult experiences... of course you will think twice before deciding to go down this route. It’s definitely not easy. On the other hand, therapy can also be empowering, nurturing, validating, supportive. It has a way of organizing difficult emotions and thoughts and putting goals into motion. ...It’s worth it. YOU are with it. . . . #galtlove #kwawesome #wrawesome #kwfamous #kitchenerwaterloo #waterlooregion #dtklove #kwsalon #dtk #shopsmall #supportlocal #bipoc #diversityandinclusion #dtkitchener #kwhealth #kwlocal #explorewr #locallyowned #explorewaterlooregion #counselling #therapy #psychotherapy #healing
