Dear COEO Members As we head into an altered normal with the start to the school year, we want you to know that your COEO Board of Directors and fellow members are thinking of you. We are hearing stories from across the province of teaching assignments changing last minute, anxieties about being back in classrooms, outdoor centres that will sit empty for the beginning of the year, OE related businesses that are struggling, camps gathering support to get through the next fe...w months, and more. Covid has impacted our lives in ways we did not entirely anticipate in March when shut-downs started. We are ALSO seeing your new ideas, social media campaigns, webinars and tip sheets, your support for students, campers, and fellow educators, and the many other ways you have chosen to pivot your role to continue to provide as much support as possible for getting families outside. We applaud your hard work and efforts, we see you, and COEO hopes to continue to support you in any way possible for our organization. In a remarkable time, it is possible that our time as outdoor educators has finally come. The benefits of being outside, and learning/schooling out of doors are being recognized at all levels of society. You are the champions for outdoor learning! Stay the course, and please use our social media contacts as a place to share questions, ideas and support for one another. Feel free to reach out to our Board of Directors, as well, and if we can’t help you, we will endeavor to connect you with someone who can. Our organization is strong because of the high degree of skill, knowledge, and creativity of our members. We wish you all the best for this September. And please remember to take much needed breaks for yourself outside, it is crucial for your well-being. If you're looking for resources for yourself, or if any of your colleagues are looking to take their students outside, here are some great places to start: Outdoor Learning Tips document: https://www.coeo.org//up/2020/08/Outdoor-Learning-Tips.pdf Taking Your Kindergarten Students Outside webinar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xq1_GO82WY&t=1s Please also stay tuned to our social media channels and subscribe to our YouTube channel to be the first to hear about any new workshops or resources we put out in the coming months.
