Is your home office hurting you? Working from home can give you some freedom, but it also comes with its own challenges. Your kitchen table might be a convenient place to plunk your laptop down for a few minutes, but let’s face it, it isn’t ideal for 8+ hours of work. It isn’t about trying to create the ‘perfect’ setup, but more about setting yourself up to win with the most body-friendly setup you can manage. Here is a handy graphic with some tips from our friends at ...Summit Orthopedics: Some highlights: Have your monitor raised or lowered so the top-third of the screen is at or just below your eye level (0-15 degrees below). You can make this happen with a laptop by raising it on a stack of books and using an external keyboard. Have a supportive chair, especially with some support for your low back. This often needs to be ‘thicker’ than you think. Take frequent breaks. Take phone calls standing up, try to get up and move a minimum of every 30-60 minutes.

At Coeur Physiotherapy we’re using our advanced training, advanced techniques, and advanced technology to get you better, faster! It feels like my head wants to fall off! We hear this a lot! It is common after certain neck injuries and particularly after car accidents to have a ‘loose’ or ‘heavy’ feeling in your neck. The good news - you don’t have to feel like a bobblehead forever!... Why would we strap a laser to your head? This is an advanced technique for training the small stabilizing muscles and reflexes in your neck, called joint position error testing. With some practice we can help you get your neck back to feeling strong and sturdy again.

We are extremely grateful that #physiotherapy clinics will remain open during this closure so that we can continue to provide the much-needed care that is essential for so many Albertans. We continue to keep your safety as our highest priority and continue to go above and beyond the mandated safety, cleaning, and screening procedures. We would like to reflect Deena Hinshaw's message yesterday regarding the importance of continuing to attend necessary medical appointments. Del...ays in treating pain and injuries can lead to a more prolonged and complex recovery. We genuinely care for the health of our patients and do not want to see the COVID-19 pandemic make way for a chronic pain epidemic. If you have any concerns or do not feel safe leaving your house please contact us at 780-705-8888. Your therapist is happy to work with you to modify your treatment plan so that you can still receive the care that you need. Together we can get through this and come out the other side better, stronger, and with less pain!

wrist? Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs) can include tennis elbow, wrist and ankle tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, and many other conditions. This type of injury is called an ‘overload’ injury, where you are demanding more of your body than what it can handle at the moment. Relief comes down to two main principles: Reducing the amount of demand and helping your body to adapt to the demands. Reducing the amount of demand can involve changing your environment or changing yo...ur body. Is your work station set up ergonomically? Have you started wearing a different type of shoe? Is your tight back making your neck do wonky things? Making changes on the outside makes it so that your joint, tendon, or muscle doesn’t have to work as hard and won’t get as stressed. Helping your body to adapt - essentially, let’s toughen that area up! Getting the area stronger and used to ‘doing its job’ will allow that area to handle what you want it to do. Whether that is typing, carrying the kids, or lifting weights, a specific loading program will build the strength and resiliency of the area to reduce or eliminate the pain.

Finally, some good news about jaw pain (TMJ/TMD)! Jaw pain affects 15% of the population, but recent research has shown that the vast majority of jaw pain is NOT due to structural changes in the joint itself. Most cases of jaw pain are related to disorders of the muscles that control the jaw, both inside and outside of the mouth. Physiotherapy has been shown to be as effective or more effective than common treatments such as night splints in most cases. ... In a TMJ assessment your physiotherapist will be able to tell you what is wrong, how long it will take to get better, what you can do to help yourself, and how we can help you. Contact the clinic for more information or to book an assessment with one of our expert physiotherapists!

To all of our loyal patients, followers, and people of the downtown community and beyond. It is with heavy hearts that we have had to cease seeing patients in-person as of April 1st in order to comply with the guidelines set by Physiotherapy Alberta. We are available to see people on an emergency basis, and also available to continue treatment with virtual appointments. We continue to hold the position that physiotherapy is an essential service, at this time more than ever, ...and will continue to advocate for our profession, our patients, and their recovery with both Physiotherapy Alberta and at the government level. In the mean time, we will be in touch. Pain does not take a holiday. We know that many of you are doing your best at home to manage, and I want to encourage you to reach out to us by email if there is anything we can help guide or progress for you: Vi: [email protected] Fil: [email protected] Adam: [email protected] Watch this space for more information, and we will reach out as we are able to expand our offerings. I just wanted to update you on our efforts to keep our employees and patients safe in regards to COVID-19. At Coeur Physio, we value our patients and our employees and want to communicate our commitment to their safety and well-being. As an organization, we continue to follow all Alberta Health and Health Canada recommended precautions to aide in preventing any exposure to COVID-19 or other flu viruses to our staff or patients. Fortunately for everyone, our patients come to u...s because they are in pain and not because they are sick, which makes Coeur a safer environment than hospitals and doctors offices. As part of our standard operating procedures at Coeur Physio: 1. All staff or patients that exhibit flu-like symptoms are asked to stay home. 2. All staff will continue to sanitize all tables, chairs, waiting areas, equipment after each patient use. 3. All staff sanitize/wash their hands before and after each patient interaction. We will continue to follow all advised prevention recommendations and provide updates to our patients as new information arises. The best practices you can do as an individual to prevent exposure is to: 1. Avoid contact with sick people. 2. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth. 3. Stay home when you are sick. 4. Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. 5. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing. We are confident, and you should be too, that at Coeur Physio we are following the best practices for the prevention of exposure or spread of the flu or COVID-19. We look forward to serving you during this time and continuing to be a trusted clinic for your health and rehabilitation needs. Adam Teece, Owner

Why does your physio look at your EYES when you have dizziness or vertigo? An important part of assessing balance and your inner ear is looking at the coordination of your head and eyes. The Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex (VOR) is responsible for stabilizing the movement of your eyes while your body is in motion. Viral infections, concussions, or prolonged neck pain and stiffness can lead to a dysfunction in how your inner ear processes information, causing symptoms such as d...izziness or feeling off-balance. The good news is that this is very TREATABLE with some SIMPLE and EFFECTIVE exercises. Your vestibular therapist will work with you to find the right progression for your condition. Contact us for more information or to see one of our vestibular therapists today!

How important is it to feel LISTENED TO by your therapist? A study in the UK found that only 50% of patients attending health care services felt sufficiently involved in decisions about their care. Patients who didnt feel listened to were less likely to follow the advice of the professional and be dissatisfied with their care. At Coeur Physiotherapy a cornerstone of our practice is to LISTEN, with compassion, empathy, and understanding. By fully hearing someones story and... concerns we can truly work together to achieve their goals! #healthcomesfirst #yegphysio #yegphysiotherapy #yegrehab #yeg #yeglocal #edmonton #yegbusiness #yegdt #yegdowntown #icedistrict #780 #yeggers #coeurphysio #yegrunner
