Our #ArtifactoftheWeek is this beautiful standing Phonograph. This artifact was made by Columbia and is from the early 1900s. This particular model features a velour covered turntable, nickel plated hardware, in an oak veneer cabinet. The front also offers record storage and tone-control leaves, which could be opened and shut to control the volume.
Don’t you just love scarves? They can add warmth and style at once. This one from our collection is perfect for adding a little bit of #FancyFriday to the end of your week.
Often made of silk, velvet, brocade or satin, shawls were a glamorous evening accessory. This shawl, which is definitely our statement piece, is made from a cream silk and features a long fringe with a black and cream ombré effect on all four sides. Fringe was made commercially popular in the 1920s not for its aesthetics, but for its practicality at creating structure in an otherwise loose accessory. This shawl belonged to Josephine Britten (b.1900-d.2001).

It’s time for more Now & Then! The Truro Cenotaph was originally dedicated on September 29, 1929 to those who served in the First World War. Beginning back in 2015, the town displayed Hometown Hero banners during the month of November. This year there will be a number of new banners placed around town honoring veterans from our local community.
We're approaching Election Week! Our #ArtifactoftheWeek is this top hat in our collection, which was used as promotional material by Margaret Cox during Robert Stanfield's 1972 federal election campaign. The Historeum will be a polling location where you can vote in person starting this Thursday, and then following our regular hours. Drop by and make your vote count!
