COVID-19 continues to put pressure on the healthcare system. Please help us help you. AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Catherine Garon, Site Manager of the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre... The Lakeland is fortunate to only have a few active cases in the community at this time. Mostly though, we have also been geographically lucky; in that, we are located a significant distance from areas with higher numbers. Positive cases are surging in Alberta and it is only a matter of time until more cases are positive in Cold Lake. We are already seeing increased positive COVID admissions at the hospital. The Cold Lake hospital has 24 inpatient beds. If these beds become overwhelmed with positive admitted COVID cases and larger urban centers have no available beds to receive cases from our area, our local healthcare providers will have very difficult decisions to make. Remember that we still have other reasons for an admission to a hospital bed such as a mother in labour, a patient who suffered a stroke, someone with heart problems, or someone with seasonal flu or requiring emergency surgery. I am so grateful to everyone who is doing their part to keep themselves, their loved ones, and cohorts safe. I ask you keep doing your best. Masks are not a political statement. They are a health statement. Hand sanitizing and social distancing is not about taking away your civil liberties; they are common sense remedies to prevent the spread of disease. Please help us so we can be there to help you. Catherine Garon
