"Roots" - Sometimes when you look at a thing for the first time you recognize "something", even if you didn't identify it at the time. This image was one of those... I saw the veins of rock but didn't make any connection. As I worked on the image my mind made a connection between the veins of rock and the roots of a large tree... as if Mother Earth was putting down roots to create stability for herself.

I owe you all an apology. Almost a month ago I posted about the opening of our new show at ViewPoint Gallery. I even included photos of the event, which you liked. It didn't occur to me until this week that I hadn't followed up with photos of the images on exhibit. Thoughtless -my bad...! So, here's the Facebook version of "New Views". My last post was a "hero shot" of Burntcoat Head. While I like it well enough, it's my version of a picture postcard of this well known site. I prefer close-ups and detail shots, so I persisted until I found a detail I liked. This "detail" is probably 12' x 30' in size, but it's a very small piece of the Head that faces the ocean. Centuries of tides have created a sculpture that any human would be hard pressed to duplicate. See more "details" on my website: www.coldwellfineartphotography.ca

It's always interesting to see how differently people photograph a scene. Recently, my friend Marvin Moore posted an image taken at Burntcoat Head. It prompted me to get off my butt and find a perspective of my own - which turned out to be the opposite end of the same famous formation. Truly - in the mind of the beholder...
