Due to an influx of cases, and in an effort to do our part to limit the exposure of Covid-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this month's nail trim event. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding throughout this wild year. We appreciate the support you have all shown us and we hope to bring this event back in December when it is safe to do so. Take care

One of the most common requests for calming aids is due to the terror loud noises can cause in our pets; whether fireworks, thunderstorms or a car backfiring, loud noises can create sudden anxiety in our beloved animals to the point of destruction, illness, or fleeing away. Try as we might, perfectly controlling our environment is a hefty and impossible feat. With this in mind, we have prepared a list of helpful tips, products and factors you can control as a pet owner to pr...epare your pets for a loud and scary night. Creating a safe space: Find the quietest place in your home away from intrusive sounds. Set up comfort items such as their bed, favorite chews, toys and blankets. If they are crate trained and comfortable in them, utilize their crate and cover it with a heavy blanket to provide further insolation from any noise. Make use of noises your pet is already accustomed to in order to help drown out sudden bursts from outside. For example: run fans, appliances (dishwasher, washer and dryer, dehumidifier, etc..) and play loud calming music. Taking your dog outside in the storm: If your pet needs to go outside, use their leash and a secure attachment to ensure they don’t flee when and if sudden noises occur. Dogs who are typically comfortable off leash may still be a flight risk if they are suddenly spooked. Make sure to keep a watchful eye on them and bring them back inside as soon as possible. Calming aids: If your pet is still fearful despite efforts to create a safe space, you can help support them through the use of calming aids. These products are available in various forms: environmental (pheromone diffusers), consumable (medications and supplements), and physical (Thundershirts and calming collars) and can often be combined to increase effects as needed. Talk to a Pet Expert today to decide what may work best for your pets! We are here to help you support them. From your local Pet Valu, Stay safe, and stay calm!
