As a former employee of Coles in Orangeville, I’ve noticed that our Facebook page has not been deactivated as yet. So I’m going on a limb and thought as the members of this site are probably book lovers like me, why not use this forum to find out what everyone’s reading and recommends. Last year I tried to reach the goal of 52 books read, but only came in at 50. So close! So I’m going to start the ball rolling with Linda’s picks with some of my favourite books read last y...ear and this year (in no particular order). Please feel free to share your picks too! 1. From the Ashes (Jesse Thistle). Fantastic autobiography of a life of abuse, addiction, homelessness and redemption of a Canadian author. This story will stay with you. 2. Starlight (Richard Wagamese) last novel written before his death. 3. The Chestnut Man (Soren Sveistrup) edge of your seat crime thriller. 4. The Girl They Left Behind (Roxanne Veletzos) historical fiction based on a true story. 5. After the End (Clare Mackintosh) fiction novel that follows to parallel stories depending on what decision parents with an ill child choose. So good! Happy reading!!

Tasha is #currentlyreading Spindle by E.K Johnson. A beautifully crafted retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty fairytale. The story is told from a different point of view and it examines the Curse and its repercussions on all the peoples of the Kingdom. The writing is magical, the setting is fantastic, and the characters are magnificent! ~Tasha

Nicole has been reading the kid’s books in the store featuring penguins and she has made a top 5 list. #5 Five Flying Penguins by Barbara Barbier McGrath This story is the day in the life of a group of five penguins. It reminded me a lot of the 5 little ducklings song. There was a lot of rhyming and repetition but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It was a sweet book, with a twist ending that I didn’t expect. ... #4 Be Brave, Little Penguin by Giles Andreae In this story little Pip-Pip the penguin learns that sometimes you have to be brave and just jump! A nice inspiring story to read about facing one’s fears. #3 Penguin & Tiny Shrimp Don’t Do Bedtime! by Cate Berry It’s about a penguin and his ‘hype man’ Little Shrimp telling you all the amazing and fun things they are going to do instead of going to bed. It is a cute book meant to make you sleepy but it will really just leave you wanting more. Perhaps don’t read it for bedtime. #2 Little Penguin Gets The Hiccups by Tadgh Bently A cautionary tale about not giving penguins chilli. I love that it was slightly interactive towards the end and it broke the fourth wall a lot. #1 Penguin Problems by Jory John It’s a funny and weird story about a penguin complaining about all the problems it has and a wise walrus has to talk some sense into them. Whether it works, I won’t spoil it. If you have a strange sense of humour like me you are sure to love it. See more

Look who Linda went to visit while she was in Nova Scotia - her former coworker Terry! Terry is loving her life out east and continues to work at Indigo. I’m sure many of our customers remember Terry’s joy of books and had walked into our store looking for a new read and walked out with 5 books in a series!! We miss you Terry
