Quick story time everyone. Like most guys my age that are in trucking, I grew up around it my whole life. My old man drove for the same guy for 42 years and trucking was all I ever knew as a kid. Being that I grew up in the industry, you get to know some of the OG’s of the game. And people you can trust. We went to Tahsis BC back at the beginning of the summer to drop this pipe fuser and trailer off to a site. It needed to be picked up this past Monday and back to the custome...r the following day. Our schedule didn’t allow it for us to make the trip all the way to Tahsis and back. So what did we do, called up one of the OG’s who’s retired in Campbell River. Without hesitation, he said yes. He ran out there to grab it in the morning, where my old man and I met him back in Campbell and transferred it to my truck. I’m incredibly greatful to have grown up around the industry that I love, and firmly believe that the love I have for this industry has helped us grow this company to where it is today. We finished out the week strong. A load of scaffolding out to Deltaport. And then a skidsteer over to the Seaspan that was destined for Coombs. And a little wide load to finish off the day from Surrey to Mission. We were originally going to take the skidsteer ourselves with another load that was destined for Nanaimo. But with it being Friday of the long weekend, and not having a reservation for the ferry, we realized that there was no way we could get it there on time. Its been a while since we posted anything (with the exception of last night), so heres a couple of jobs weve done over the past few weeks. The first was from this past weekend. A run up to Merritt for a one off customer. A 10,000 lbs forklift, which Im sure is older than I am, and a small farm tractor. The 2nd is a couple of skidsteers for a great client of ours. One of which I used to be employed by when I was a carpenter. 3rd is a trailer and container we helped for a... new client of ours. Which, we were helped by @wtf_logistics to get it all the way to Vegas. And 4th, a few generators for another one of our great clients. One from Duncan that we delivered back in March, and another up to Kelowna. Were grateful for each and every one of our clients. You see this truck? This is White Shadow. White Shadow and I were robbed today. But not in the way you would think. We werent robbed physically. Nothing was taken form the truck, nor was White Shadow harmed or damaged in any way. No, we were robbed by a corporation. One that which, some of you know very well. You see, White Shadow is no different than any other Ram3500 dually. Standard length, standard width, standard everything (except for the tranny, but thats ok). But, ...apparently, to said corporation, were not. Why? Well, let me tell you. Were registered at 17,000 KGs (and have it displayed for legal reasons), and because of that, classifies us as commercial vehicle to said corporation. Now, Im used to that. We pull a 38 trailer, and are 56 overall length, and pay just shy of $400 every time. So this is how we were robbed. We went over to the island with just the truck today with a single pallet, (Im sure youve guessed who it is by now). On the way over, along with the dozens of other times Ive crossed with just the truck, we were charged for a standard passenger vehicle. $75. On our way back, the ticket booth attendant said Thatll be $147. Which at first, I corrected the person and said No, were just a pick up truck. Were standard pricing for vehicles. Ive paid that multiple times. To which the response was Well, youre fortunate, because youre GVW is above 5500 KG, and you should be charged commercial every time. This is where I got mad. How is it that a standard size pick up, the same size and several other trucks that were in line as well, get charged double the amount because my GVW is listed above 5500 KGs? I can understand when I have my trailer on. Im long and heavy, and will pay the commercial rates. Were physically over 5500 KGs. But not when Im just the truck. Thats ridiculous! Or in this case, robbery. There was probably 3 or 4 5500 flatdeck in line as well, and I can bet that they were charged for a standard vehicle. I get that for the larger trucks, that they wouldnt get a break. But cmon, thats insane! Youre already making enough money, you dont have to Rob people of theirs.

As most of you saw in the story, we had a different ride this morning. One of the companies we work with here was short a driver. All our loads were done for the day so we helped out and jumped in a truck. We all have to work together to get the job done sometimes. Lets have a chat, shall we? These pictures were sent to me by a buddy. Now, its quite obvious whats wrong here. That doesnt need to be pointed out. Heres where it goes wrong for me. 1) whichever company this is, they shouldnt be transporting equipment. Period! They clearly dont know what theyre doing. 2) If this came through a broker, the broker should do some research into who is actually hauling their freight. And check that their qualified to move it. Dont just s...ay its 25 and 23k lbs, and expect that everyone knows how to secure it properly (again, they clearly dont here). 3) Wherever these came from (whether it be factory direct, or a united branch) the shipper should have never ever let this leave like this. EVER!! This is, in my opinion, the definition of you get what you pay for. There is so many things wrong with this load, and not one person checked it. These are supposed to be in step decks at the very minimum. And theyre on a highboy. Theyre lucky they didnt clip anything! Its things like these that get me upset with our Industry. Let the specialty carriers take care of the business and know that your loads will arrive properly and in good care. Seen a real unicorn out there today. A 40 x 10 wide x 10 tall container. And there was 2 of them. These things were big. The interesting thing is that there are two sets of lifting eyes on the bottom. One of which is where they should normally be, but only one set on the top.
