Giorgio came in to see Dr Donais tonight for his 2nd puppy visit! He was full of kisses and very obviously wagging his tail as fast as possible!
At last the warm weather is coming and we can get back out and about without freezing our toes off! With warm weather, comes critters and insects coming back out to greet us all. If you are heading out with your canine friends on trails, wooded areas or back up to cottage country make sure you have their prevention to protect them against these pests. Fleas and ticks are out in zero degree weather and warmer. Call us today to ask about what prevention your furry friend should be on to protect them.
Lincoln the Maincoon weighs in at 10.36 kilograms! His size compared to RVT Kristine is astounding - but he is full of snuggles and love
Older pets, small breed dogs and flat faced cats, like Persians, are especially at risk for dental disease. Signs that your pet may be experiencing dental disease are: bad breath, a change in chewing habits, bleeding gums, yellow or brown crust on teeth and tooth loss. If you are noticing any of these signs with your pet, contact us today to book an appointment for a dental checkup.

Ambrosia crossed over the rainbow bridge late last week. She was loved by everyone in the clinic and was such a sweet girl who we all loved getting to know over the past 16 years. She has been a patient of Dr. Donais since day one and brightened everyone’s day when she came in. Her family has asked us to share her sweet face with you all, a way to have her memory live on forever and warm your hearts the way she warmed theirs and ours. We know she will be deeply missed by all of her loved ones and anyone who has crossed paths with her. Rest In Peace sweet angel
RVT Suzanne would like to remind everyone to make sure there are no edible gifts under the tree this Christmas. An entire dark chocolate bar was eaten by this little guy and he was not feeling great. Luckily he came to us as soon as it happened and is now at home resting and doing fantastic. Be safe this season and double check what you are leaving in areas our furry friends can get to
Happy Monday everyone. I wanted to write a little something to update you on life in the Veterinary Hospital. I'm sure you will all agree that this year has certainly been challenging for so many of us for so many reasons. With health concerns, child care challenges and an increased amount of sick patients, we have certainly been tested. The staff here at College Manor Veterinary Hospital have all been working so hard to do their best to care for your pets and have continue...d to work through the pandemic to serve you. Our clinic is a very busy place but it is also quite small. Social distancing while simply examining a pet is challenging. We all wear our masks and we are constantly cleaning to help protect each and to remain healthy. We elected at the beginning of the pandemic to adopt a 'locked door' policy. What this means is that we have curbside pick up for food and medications and that the Veterinarians are examining and treating your pet while you wait patiently in your vehicles. With the new 'lockdowns' in Toronto and Peel and with York teetering on the edge, this will remain in place indefinitely. We have had many people complain and quite frankly be very rude and disrespectful to our staff because of this. I am asking that you please be kind and patient, please don't swear or shout at the staff, they are simply doing their job while trying to stay safe. For those of you who have shown your appreciation, I would like to say thank you. Those small displays of appreciation are what helps to get the staff through these difficult and challenging times. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please stay safe and healthy. April McEwan Practice Manager College Manor Veterinary Hospital See more

How to recognize pain in aging dogs: As dogs age, we generally see changes in their behavior. The playful ball-chasing and constant running around that we associate with puppies gives way to adult dogs napping in the sun and lounging during evening TV time. With senior dogs we accept even more slowing down. It is important to remember, however, that old age is not a disease. We need to differentiate between normal behavior changes of aging dogs and abnormal behaviors that ca...n be important signals of pain. What kind of behavior changes might I see in my dog that could be a sign that he’s in pain? Unfortunately, detecting pain in our canine companions is not always straightforward or black and white. Some visibly obvious behaviors are important signs that a dog may be in pain. These include: avoiding slippery floor surfaces difficulty getting up or slow to stand from a down position difficulty or easing into a sitting or lying position limping/lameness lying down while eating or drinking reluctance or inability to jump up onto furniture, a bed, or into a car reluctance to go up or down stairs reluctance to raise his head to take a treat reluctance to sit when asked reluctance to turn his head to one side or the other sitting on one hip or the other with the rear legs off to one side 'lazy sit' standing to one side/weight shifting away from a painful limb standing or walking with his head held down or back arched up moving/walking while defecating or urinating urinary or fecal accidents night restlessness if he cannot get comfortable Any of these behaviors should prompt a visit to the veterinarian so a source of the pain can be identified, and treatment can begin. Do you know how to get your dog or cat comfortable with trimming their nails or brushing their teeth?
Happy Birthday Lola

Update on how Oskar is doing! Oskar has done so well with his treatment from Dr. Dukoff, he isn’t itchy anymore and his hair is growing back. He is now back to being his normal fun loving self.
Happy Sunday friends
Oskar presented to our Veterinarians with extreme itching and a fair amount of hair loss around his eyes, feet and nose. At this time of year seasonal allergies are a common problem for our pets and unfortunately this cannot be cured but we can manage the symptoms so that the pet is more comfortable and the owner is not dealing with itching and scratching all day and night. After sending Oskar home with some shampoo, spot on treatment and an anti itch medication, he is doing well and we will be seeing Oskar again shortly to make sure he is still comfortable and that his skin is healing.
Happy 12th Birthday to Bess and Tuck. They were spoiled with treats and lots of love.

This time of year we see many of our patients coming to see us because they are itchy. Fall is prime time for fleas, it is also the worst time for seasonal allergies. If your pet is driving you crazy itching and scratching all day long, book an appointment with one of our Veterinarians. We can help.
Mango enjoyed some time in the sun on his birthday. Happy Birthday Mango
Happy 2nd Birthday Leo
Happy 3rd Birthday Fergus. Loving the hat and cake
Something to be aware of for dogs who enjoy playing in the water...Blue Green Algae blooms at this time of year. With the hot weather and lack of rain creating ideal conditions, pet owners should keep their pets away from any water that contains this algae. It is very toxic and if you believe your pet has been exposed to this aglae, you should contact the closest emergency clinic right away.
The team at CMVH would like to wish Colt a very Happy 2nd Birthday
Let’s all wish Marina a very Happy 2nd Birthday
Happy 15th Birthday Gracie from your CMVH family
