Our residents completed the first summer of Teen Compass, A Cut Above Lawn Care. This experience offers free lawn care service for seniors while providing on th...e job training for our residents along side Columbus House Staff. We receive financial support to pay the residents for this employment. The employment skills developed have given the residents the knowledge and confidence to move forward with part time employment. Thank you to all of our community members for providing this opportunity. From the compliments received, this pilot project was a huge success and we will continue it for the summer of 2021. We want to give back to our community for their generous continued support so watch for our post in May 2021 to refer any seniors that may want assistance with their lawn care at no cost to them.

A HUGE thank you to Pembroke Regional Hospital Wellness Committee for their donation of diapers, books, toys, hand sanitizer, and personal products for moms! T...hese will happily be distributed to our young parents as we begin our new outreach 'Young Parent Support Program' in September. A 14 day quarantine is mandatory with an additional test completed mid way. Teen Compass: Closed until September Childcare Program: The Renfrew Childcare staff are busy getting ready for reopening. Our numbers will be decreased slightly. The actual opening date to be announced when we have completed the RCDHU assessment. Our Pembroke Childcare Program is closed until September. Young Parent Support Program: This program will move to outreach only in September. This is exciting news as we will be able to reach a larger number of young parents throughout the County. More information to follow in August.

Staff planned a special evening for our residents. Our residents have been self-isolating for 13 weeks and staff wanted to say thank you to them for their role ...in Covid-19. Staff have worked hard to keep our residents safe, by self-isolating our residents have kept the staff, their families, and our community safe! We created an outdoor theatre, using social distancing measures, with comfortable seating and a fully stocked concession stand. It was a beautiful evening!

I am sure that you recently heard that childcare will be permitted to reopen on June 12, 2020. This is somewhat misleading information as we are awaiting more guidelines on the requirements for reopening. We will actively monitor the situation and meet all requirements to keep your children safe before Columbus House Childcare will reopen. Unfortunately, we are still weeks away from this.
