To all my friends raising white children: Please look to create an inclusive, permanent library for your kids. Buy books written by non white authors and re...ad them stories where black and brown people are the hero. (The Coretta Scott King Book Award Winners list is a great place to start.) Please don’t limit your buying to fair-skinned dolls. Show your kids the beauty of other skin tones and features that they don’t have. Please raise them to understand their privilege. They need to learn that not everyone starts from the same line and has the same opportunities. Please follow accounts like @theconsciouskid on IG they have great kids books recommendations and tips on how to have these conversations with your children. Please surround yourself with friends who are as diverse and loving as you think the world should be. Please take time to teach yourself about what you weren’t taught as a kid and unlearn some of what you were taught so you don’t pass it on. I see you all taking the time to design your picture perfect baby nursery, and coordinate your children’s outfits to match the aesthetic of your Instagram. You have the time and the ability to do this. If you don’t, it’s because you don’t want to, and that’s a whole other conversation. See more

A lot of Canadians are watching what’s happening in the states right now with an attitude of superiority thinking that Canada is socially progressive and above ...all this. RACISM IS NOT JUST AN AMERICAN PROBLEM Here are a just a few examples of casual racism I’ve personally witnessed in Canada. While doing shows this past Christmas in Calgary, two white people casually used the N word in my presence on two separate occasions. After calling them out, humiliating them and causing a scene, I was floored that this hate-filled word was so casually and comfortably dropped in my presence. While dating an Asian man for 4 years, I was asked more times than I can count about the size of his penis. While looking at my phone, and at the mostly black and brown men I was talking to on a dating app, I was asked why I couldn’t just date a normal white guy for once. Let me make myself very fucking clear. If you don’t get what’s happening because you’ve never seen racism, or you think saying all lives matter is moving the conversation forward, or if you use racist words to intentionally hurt and stereotype people you are NOT welcome at my shows, you are NOT wanted as a follower, and you will NEVER be a part of my life.
