#WeSaluteYourService, MWO Joe Shea. Kurt Butt has nominated you for recognition and we are grateful to receive this tribute and photos. Kurt tells us you have been life-long friends since your school days and you were in each other’s wedding party. Kurt wrote, MWO Joe Shea joined the RCAF in 2002 as a direct entry firefighter in St. John's NL. He completed his basic training in St. Jean. After his apprenticeship training in CFB Borden, he was posted to 14 Wing Greenwood. Du...ring his time there he completed his journeyman course and completed a tour to Dubai from December 2006 to June 2007. In June of 2008 he and his family made the long drive from Greenwood Nova Scotia to Victoria BC. There he was posted to HMCS Ottawa. In February of 2009 he began work up training for a deployment to Afghanistan which began in Oct 2009 until April 2010. Upon completion of this tour, he was posted to HMCS Regina. The summer of 2011 he and his family were on the move again, this time to CFB Trenton. There he completed his supervisor course and began preparation for a tour to CFS Alert from 2014 to 2015, a total of 10 months. In 2017, he was posted to 1 Engineering Support Unit in Kingston. While there he prepared for another tour, OP Impact in Kuwait 2019 to 2020. Upon his return from Kuwait in June 2020, he received a posting message to CFB Borden as the Operations MWO where he currently is today. His wife Renee works in Belleville and his son Kyle lives in Kingston. When submitting the photo and MWO Joe Shea’s bio, Kurt said, There are 158 poppies in memory of those we lost in Afghanistan. Joe continues to remember all those brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us many years ago. We will remember them. We thank you for your service, MWO Joe Shea, and thank you to all military families. #WeSaluteYourService is a campaign that invites people to recognize someone publicly who has served our country, past or present. First launched in 2020 by our community partner, Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI), the campaign has helped spread the word about programs that honour and support veterans. One of the ways MHI is honouring and supporting #veterans is to build affordable housing for the most vulnerable among them. Today, we are saluting the service of Capt Charles Kemp. James Kemp contacted us to share a photo and honour his father, writing, "He served for 39 years. Best dad, role model and my hero." #WeSaluteYourService is a campaign that invites people to recognize someone publicly who has served our country, past or present. Thomas MacWilliam is saluting his father, Lt. Col. Thomas Cail MacWilliam, Officer Commanding 1st Battalion, 2nd Regiment, First Special Service Force, Killed in Action 3 December, 1943, Mention In Dispatches. Thomas submitted this write-up about his father: On the night of 2/3 Dec 1943, the First Special Service Force began its first combat mission. The 2nd Regt was assigned the job of capturing and holding Mt. La Definsa, Mt. Remetanea and an intermediate peak all part of... the Camino Mass, south of Cassino, Italy. The night was dark, cold and wet, the terrain was a high, steep and rugged mountain. Morale of our men and enemy troops high. The 1st Bn. 2nd Regt commanded by Lt.-col T.C MacWilliam was the assault Bn, and led the attack up the mountainside. Lt-col MacWilliam accompanying the advance platoon of 1st Coy directed the attack through a heavy fire fight, and took mountain peak with one Coy, and from this advanced position directed the attack on the remaining enemy positions. By this time his Bn. Was disorganized, since 2 and 3 Coys lost contact on the way up, and 1 Coy had suffered severe losses. The position was being subjected to heavy mortar and sniper fire. Despite all this, Lt-col MacWilliam went about calmly, consolidating his position against possible counter-attack, (which did not materialize) encouraging his men and always planning the next attack. When 2 and 3 Coys arrived the attack on Mr. Remetanea was begun. Lt.-col MacWilliam knowing this successful accomplishment of this phase would mean a further 1500 yard salient into enemy lines. It was due to Lt.-col MacWilliam’s thorough planning, calm and efficient execution, and unswerving determination to accomplish his mission that led to the capture of the mountain mass that had help up the advance of the 5th Army for four weeks. (An Infantry Division had made three unsuccessful attempts to capture La Defensa.) Lt.-col MacWilliam exemplified the highest traditions of an Officer of the Canadian Army. Thank you for sharing your tribute about your father with us, Thomas. We Will Remember. Join us in honouring veterans every day, not just Remembrance Day. Led by Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI), Veterans’ House will provide 40 veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with affordable shelter, training, services, and support. #WeSaluteYourService is a public appeal for donations but also an opportunity to recognize those who have served our country (past or present). If you can help us spread the word, Commissionaires Ottawa will match every donation dollar up to $150,000: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/10229

#BecauseOfYou Cmre Tara Leskie, Petawawa: When Cmre Tara Leskie was on her way to her shift, she witnessed a big accident on the road. A car moved onto the road and struck a motorcycle which was driving at a good speed. Tara immediately responded and took control of the situation. She examined the injured person, completed a scene survey and managed traffic under the hot sun until emergency personnel arrived on the scene. When they arrived, she briefed them on the situation. ...She then continued on her way to work. #FemmesDeCommissionnaires
