Last night reopening recommendations for Churchill Pool were approved by Council at their July 20th meeting. Churchill Pool is anticipated to reopen by early August pending a successful public health inspection, and will follow Ministry and Lifesaving Society guidelines for aquatics facilities. The following services will be available to members of the public by pre booking: Lane swimming, family swims and group bookings as an initial schedule. Pre-booking by phone will begin on July 27 at 9am by calling 577-2538. At this time, CGC and Volunteer Pool remain closed and a decision to reopen these facilities is expected by September, pending a formal review process.

We appreciate that you’re excited about the Province’s announcement to reopen indoor pools (we are too!). Please note that while the Province is allowing the reopening of pools as of June 12, the decision to reopen pools will need to go to Council for approval on June 22. We appreciate your patience as staff are working hard on reopening plans that meet the standards and guidelines to ensure public safety. Stay tuned everyone! Staff are proceeding to apply program registration credits for Spring programs being cancelled. This credit can be used towards any City Recreational Programs in the future. Clients wishing to request a refund instead of a credit to their account may call 625-2227 or 684-3323 on Wednesday April 8th , otherwise please leave a voicemail or email [email protected] with contact information only. Please do not leave credit card information over voicemail or email- staff will get back to you. Refunds may take 3-4 weeks to process.

The City has made the decision to cancel our Spring Session of swimming lessons. Credits have been applied to everyone's accounts and can be used for future programming when our facilities re-open. If you require a refund please call 625-2227 or 684-3323 and leave a message with a name and number and you will be contacted on March 31st when refunds will be processed. Please do not leave credit card information on voicemail! Any refund requests after March 31st may have some delay. Once again we appreciate your patience during this time and we cant wait to see everyone again!

City recreation and culture facilities and programs have been temporarily closed as of end of day March 16, 2020 for an indefinite period as part of the City’s COVID-19 response -It is uncertain at this time when the facilities will be re-opened and programs resumed. City Administration is committed to providing regular updates on status via the media, social media, and the City’s website. -City staff are proceeding to apply program registration and facility rental credits..., according to the City’s refund/credit policies. The staff at Volunteer Pool and Churchill Pool have been sponsoring families as part of the Children's Aid Society Christmas Hamper Program for over the past 10 years! The pool staff fundraise money and collect donations to provide a positive Christmas experience for those less fortunate in Thunder Bay. Below is a photo of all the gifts and goods collected by Churchill Pool for the 2 independent youth and the family of 3 that they sponsored this year! What a wondeful way of giving back to the community each holiday season!
