We have been doing a bit of a different fall fundraiser this year, and we are loving it! Through our backyard fundraisers and the generosity of an anonymous donor who matched the first $10,000 raised, we are now at over $22,000 out of our $50,000 goal! We are so thankful to each and every donor who has made this possible! We are still fundraising for India through to the end of October, so we would love to invite you to join with us and donate to help us reach our goal in ...order to make sure all the kids we support in India have the rice and protein they need to thrive this coming year. Please visit our website to find out more about this fundraiser, how to donate, and how your donation can make a significant difference in the lives of so many children! #fall #fundraiser #outdoors #charity #yegcharity #india #feedingchildren #rice #protein #communitydevelopment

Over 500 victims of flooding in the Godavari District were given care packages last week thanks to Metropolitan Mission’s efforts to reach the poorest of the poor who were affected by the devastating floods in India. We are so grateful for all our donors who have enabled us to send finances to MM for this life saving work! These families would otherwise be starving if not for the help provided through your support. #india #flood #disasterrelief #humanitarianaid #rice #charity #yegcharity

Recently some alumni of the MM Children’s home stopped by for a visit! They are now going to post secondary schooling all thanks to the support they received as children from MM. They were so grateful for all MM had done for them, which included a care package when they visited, as the COVID crisis has caused much hardship for them and their families. We are so proud of how hard these students are working at school and how they are making a difference in their communities! #india #college #communitydevelopment #covidrelief #allgrownup #education

This year we had the joy of increasing our board by one new member! We are welcoming Annemarie officially to the team after she has already been volunteering with us for 2 years. If you want to learn a bit more about Annemarie, or any of our other board members, please check out our website! All our board members are volunteers who are dedicated to doing what they can to end the cycle of poverty in partnership with locally run organizations in Haiti, India, and South Africa. https://www.childsociety.org/child-board.html

Another tragedy befalls our friends in India! Severe flooding has once again plagued the Andhra Pradesh province of India where Metropolitan Mission operates. MM is planning to distribute food and clean bottled water to many who are displaced by the flooding and we are so grateful that by the generosity of our donors we were able to send over $5000 in aid for this work! But as with every natural disaster, more aid is always appreciated so that more people can have food to eat and water to drink that they would not have otherwise. If you would like to support MM in their work, please donate on our website. #india #naturaldisaster #flood #humanitarianaid #disasterrelief #charity

MM has been busy preparing for their school to open in September! They are painting, making repairs, and making sure they meet all the COVID guidelines. In the midst of this, the staff created 150 care packages once again for the kids from the Children’s Home, which included rice, lentils, oil, soap, personal hygiene items, masks, and hand sanitizer. #India #backtoschool #COVID #relief #care #charity #yegcharity

Though the children who usually stay at the Metropolitan Mission Children’s Home are not yet able to return, it is good to see they are still being fed and cared for by MM so that they will continue to grow up strong and be ready for their return when the time comes! #india #children #rice #disasterrelief #charity #yegcharity

And the work goes on! Metropolitan Mission in India continues to distribute rice, dahl, masks, sanitizers, and other essentials to at risk groups in their area. Stranded labourers, leper colonies, and hungry children and their families are just an example of some of the groups reached by MM each week as the effects of the COVID crisis in India continue. #india #covid19 #disasterrelief #charity #food #yegcharity

As temperatures soar to over 40C in Andhra Pradesh province in India, water shortages have become another source of concern in addition to the COVID crisis for the communities that Metropolitan Mission serves. As such, we are so grateful for the 38 wells that you as our donors have funded over the years! But this is only the beginning. If you would like to fund a well to help bring clean drinking water to Indian towns being hit hard with this drought, please contact us by email or through our website! #india #drought #water #watershortage #communitydevelopment #well #charity #yegcharity

So amazing to hear how our partners in Haiti are helping families stay fed during this difficult time!

A leper colony - not somewhere most people plan to go, but it is somewhere Metropolitan Mission went to distribute rice and essentials to this needy community. They were very thankful for the help they received from MM, and we are so thankful to MM for being able to reach so many people who would otherwise be starving at this time. And thank you to our donors for supporting this amazing work! #india #lepers #help #disasterrelief #thankful #charity #yegcharity

So many in need have been helped these past two months, yet there are still so many we have yet to reach! MM has been working hard to hand out food and health safety items to the handicapped, the homeless, the migrant workers and the children from the MM Children’s Home. All this, and they are still going strong and preparing more and more packages each day! Such an encouraging thing to see in the midst of this crisis. #india #lockdown #covid19 #feedingthehungry #disasterrelief

Such an encouraging story from South Africa! Local breweries have started using their facilities to make nutritious soup to feed thousands every day! It’s so great to see people thinking outside of the box in order to help their communities. Take a look at this video for the full story. https://youtu.be/bMJO_6rXowI

COVID -19 has taken most everyone’s attention. It has affected the whole world, and made many of us afraid, unsure and our situations complicated. But, have yo...u happened to stop and think about the fact that even while the world is focused on COVID-19, children in Haiti are still starving and malnourished? This sad reality has not stopped simply because COVID has reared its ugly head. Children like this little guy, who is 9 months old and weighs 3.53kg. Today. In 2020. He is starving. That’s why we continue to safely see patients and provide education and nutritional support to community families even during this complicated time. Please pray for this little family. Their situation is complicated, unsure, and they are afraid. See more

We are told to shelter in place, but what if there is no place to shelter in? We are told to wash your hands frequently, but what if there is barely enough water to drink in order to stay alive? Check out our new blog post for a different perspective on this pandemic crisis. https://www.childsociety.org/blog

Metropolitan Mission (MM) is out serving their community thanks to your help! We have had many donations these past few weeks which our partners in India are so grateful for during this COVID-19 crisis. Your donations have allowed MM to feed hundreds who are in dire need, but of course there are many who still need help as their lockdown has been extended into May. As MM works to reach hundreds more, especially children and stranded migrant workers, please consider if you may be able to help by coming alongside MM and donating towards this cause. #india #covid #covidrelief #humanitarianaid #thanks #charity #yegcharity #food #starvation #lockdown

A big thanks from Haiti! Though our Pi Day fundraiser back in March didn't quite go as planned due to COVID coming on the scene, we were still able to raise $5000 to send to Haiti thanks to our amazing donors! This money has allowed them to prepare and distribute emergency relief packages to support and educate families in their community, enabling them to more tangibly embrace the idea of social distancing. #haiti #thankyou #charity #emergencyrelief #humanitarianaid #covid19 #piday #yegcharity

Starvation is not necessarily something we need to worry about right now in Canada, but for the most vulnerable in Indian society, it is an imminent threat caused by the lockdown due to Coronavirus. India is currently locked down for three weeks to reduce the spread of the pandemic. As a result, many who are bedridden, handicapped, or beggars are not able to access food. Thankfully our partner in India, Metropolitan Mission, has been allowed to send out volunteers to deliver ...ready to eat meals to those who cannot get food in their city. This will bring some hope to many who are suffering in this difficult period. We know that this pandemic has caused financial difficulties for many, but if you are able, we implore you to join with us by giving what you can to help supply the finances for food supplies in this critical time. Please visit www.childsociety.org/donate to give your support. #india #help #hunger #starvation #coronavirus #charity #humanitarianaid #lockdown
