Meet Dave Stevenson We are fortunate to have so many skilled and caring individuals who serve as our Board Members. Each month we will share with you a regular feature to introduce these individuals to you. This month we will feature the Acting Treasurer on our Board of Directors, Dave Stevenson.... Dave holds an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics (Major in Actuarial Science and Minor in Statistics) from the University of Waterloo. He has extensive management experience, managing financial reporting, product development, marketing strategy, transition planning, and project management. Following a 20 year career in the financial and insurance sector, Dave has held several executive positions with the Bank of Montreal, Canada Direct, RBC Insurance and the Royal Bank Financial Group. Why is a financial expert interested in Community Care? I wanted to contribute in some small way in helping to shape and enrich the community, to help it achieve its potential, said Stevenson. Given the demographics of Peterborough, the acknowledgement of my own ageing, and the fact that Transition Navigators caters to the elderly, I found Community Care to be a natural fit. Since joining the board in 2019, and now chairs its Finance Committee, Dave’s focus is to help achieve a stable funding model, so planning can be more sure-footed well into the future. With everything that has transpired this year, unfortunately we are not able to have our usual Holly Tea and Silent Auction, so we decided to improvise a bit! In its place, we are going to have a small Christmas Raffle in our office, starting Monday November 23rd and running until December 14th. All items are on display and tickets are available to purchase in our office - located at 549 Ennis Rd in Ennismore. Tickets are 1 for $2, 3 for $5 and 10 for $15. We will draw names on December 14th and the winners will be notified by phone that week. We at Community Care Remember Since 1919, Canadians have gathered to observe a two-minute silence at 11am at war memorials, cenotaphs, religious services and workplaces. Although we can not physically gather this year we will continue to honour this tradition and take these moments of silence at our desks starting at 11am.... Susan Wood-Bohm has a BSc (Agr) from the University of Guelph, an MSc (Biology) from Queen’s University, and also a Ph.D. (Molecular Genetics) from Queen’s University. Recently retired, she has held positions as a Director of Research at Queen’s University, the Executive Director, Alberta Innovates, a Regional Director, United Nations Sustainable Development Network, and a Co-chair, Investment Management Committ...ee, Bio Industrial Innovation Canada. I have been fortunate to enjoy a career that has spanned the four realms of business, academia, government, and the United Nations focused on addressing particularly challenging global issues such as climate change, and food safety and security, said Susan Wood Bohm. October is Community Support Month (#csm2020). It is a time for us to celebrate our service to the community and it is particularly special for us this year. We Never Stopped! We are proud to say that we did not miss a day of service to our clients or stop our essential programs. ... We found ways to safely support our communities most vulnerable and in fact, ramped up our services to accommodate the surge of need. COVID-19 has changed everyone’s day to day activities but we, as always, continue to go the extra kilometre to keep seniors, throughout the City and County of Peterborough, safe and healthy in their own homes. We Applaud our Volunteers!! We would not be able to provide the services and programs we do without the support and dedication of all of our volunteers! This year, we were not able to hold our Annual Volunteer Recognition Events where we celebrate our volunteers. Each year at these events we also present volunteers with Years of Service Pins. So, we decided to hit the road this summer and delivered awards to volunteers who have been volunteering with Community Care for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 50 years!! Congratulations to all! A BIG thank you to all of our volunteers!
