/ Gong Xi Fa Cai! Happy Chinese New Year! Fun Facts about the Chinese New Year: ... 1) People born in the year of the Ox are known to be strong, patient, calm, and hard working and also stubborn! (Years of the Ox include 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021) 2) Red envelopes filled with money are a popular Chinese New Year gift. The idea is for elders to pass good fortune to children. 3) Why is the Chinese New Year a different date each year? It follows a calendar based on the phases of the moon, while Gregorian calendars are based on the sun!

"REDress Project, which involves the hanging of red dresses in public spaces, began as an art installation by Metis artist Jamie Black first displayed at the University of Winnipeg in 2011 and has since been replicated in communities across Canada. The empty red dresses are meant to signify the loss of thousands of Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit, lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual (2SLGTBQQIA) people over and to draw attention to the gendered and racialized nature of violent crimes against Indigenous women and to evoke a presence through the marking of absence (Douglas Hunt, 2021)". #OurCommunityCares #mmiwg2s #mmiwg #redress #redressproject #awareness @ The REDress Project Brock University Human Rights and Equity

In 1990, the agency supported the inception of the Housing Help Centre (HHC) and in 2005, recognizing the agencies served the same client base- the HHC surrendered their Charter; and became the Housing Help Program of Community Care. This merger was necessary as it ensured effective and inclusive program delivery, which in turn heightened client outcomes. Today the Housing Help Program includes not only housing supports, but a Money Management Program and a Utility Program. ...To echo the Niagara Region’s request for residents of Niagara to think about what it is like to be without a stable home during a pandemic the work of Community Care’s Housing Help Program can speak directly to this ask. And a snapshot of the on-going work individuals and families in need, is provided below. In October the HHC’s Front Desk received over 458 phone calls. The Utility Program, which helps clients access financial supports to keep the lights and heat on, received over 350 phone calls, and the Housing Worker did over 70 hours of phone calls, with nearly 100 families and/or individuals. Overall, as was back in 1990, the Housing Help program supports community effort to ensure every resident and family has access to affordable housing year-round! #NationalHousingDay2020 See more
