Amazing to think this was just over 5 years ago! Thank you Quantus Mortgage Solutions and all those who have donated to get us here today.

Despite all the difficulties we've faced this year, that hasn't stopped us from helping families who need it most. This year alone, we've been able to help 22 families and given over $32,600 in rent and housing payments. We've now helped 75 families and given over $139,000 since our start in 2015. ... Thank you to all those who have contributed to Community Key, in time, money, and support. Without you, this would have not have been possible.

Helping the Ansari family will a moment that will shine bright for many years to come and offers a sad, yet humble, reminder of why what we do is so important. Akram was born to Mulyanis and Hossein on September 24, 2020, at 31 weeks and 3 days, approximately six weeks before his due date. He was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, a fatal genetic condition that gave little Akram only a 10 percent chance of living to his first birthday. Even during this indescribable time, Mulyanis an...d Hossein wanted to share their story in an effort to share Community Key’s mission to help other families who are facing similar challenges. We are deeply honoured to share the Ansari’s story and remember baby Akram.

We're happy to introduce our newest keyed family, the Jean's! In late March of 2019 at 2-years-old, Paisley-Anne was diagnosed with an inoperable glioma tumour on her optic nerve. Unfortunately, this tumour caused Paisley-Anne to lose sight in her left eye. After going through 72 weeks of weekly chemo treatments, the small family would have to face another challenge when Ricky-Lynne, Paisley-Anne's mom, had a heart attack.... With everything this family has had to endure, it was without question that we had to help Ricki-Lynne and Paisley-Anne. Thank you to all who have donated to help this amazing family. Read their full story.

We'd like to introduce you to another keyed family, The Thorson's! At 16, Colson was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. While his mom, Alisha, had planned to take time off work during Colson's first round of treatments in mid-March, as the world went into isolation with COVID-19, this wasn't an option. You can read Colson's full story below and you can also support Colson and Alisha through their GoFundMe page https://www.gofundme.com/f/n6d6c-fight-for-colson... As of May, Colson has been responding well to treatments and things are looking well. We're so happy to hear that and wish Colson all the best with his treatments and recovery!

Meet our newest Community Key family, the Lightbourne's. Jasmine was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) with Pulmonary Atresia. Babies with TOF have five different heart abnormalities that are typically corrected with surgery usually before they are six months old. Within a week after being born, Jasmine had a complete repair of these abnormalities. But, this surgery would only be the start of little Jasmine's health journey. Read her full story below!... We were able to help the Lightbourne's cover some of their rent payments between their home in Grande Prairie and their temporary home in Edmonton. Thank you so much for allowing us to share your story and thank you to everyone who donated to help this more than deserving family.

It's times like these that we need to make an even stronger effort to reach out to those in need. We're still here to make sure that families with critically-injured or terminally-ill children are still getting the help they need to make their mortgage or rent payments. We're doing our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and transferring all funds electronically rather than delivering a cheque to each family. While we enjoy meeting all the families we help in-person, we... do not want to put any family at further risk for illness. Do you know a family with a sick or injured child that's been impacted financially? We're here to help. Send us an email to [email protected] for more information.

It is such an honour to be selected as a Mortgage Awards of Excellence finalist in Community Service. Five years ago, we started something that we knew was goin...g to help families going through some of the hardest times of their lives. But, to see how Community Key has grown, supporting over 50 families and given over $100,000 in rent and mortgage payments, has made us extraordinarily proud. Our team supported the initiative from Day 1 and were where we are today because of their support and dedication to the charity. Congratulations to all the other finalists and nominees. Its fantastic to see our industry doing some amazing work in our communities.

Our team has been hard at work preparing for the fantastic Community Key 5th Anniversary Gala & Silent Auction. The outpouring of support from silent auction donations to vendor sponsors has been incredible. However, with recent developments with the COVID-19, we have decided to postpone our gala until a later time. While the risk in Alberta remains low, were following the guidelines issued by Health Canada, Alberta Health, and WHO to prevent any potential spread of the vir...us. We want to ensure that our Gala is a safe and fun event for everyone attending. Community Keys entire mission is to help families with sick children and we want to continue this mission by reducing the possibility of attendees becoming sick from our own event. We will be offering a full refund on purchased tickets or you can keep your ticket for the future event. You can request your refund directly through Eventbrite. Once we have further direction from health authorities, we will reach out with the new event date this spring.

We have been able to help another amazing family because of your donations to Community Key! The Ehigiator family has been through a lot since the birth of their son, Troy. Troy, 21 months old, was born with Down Syndrome and Hirschsprungs disease. Hirschsprungs affects the large intestine and causes problems with passing stool. Troy needs a full-time caregiver. A role thats been filled by his father, Jonathan. Jonathan was laid off October 2018, helping Troy and his ...wife, Pat, who was pregnant with twins. Pat was ordered to bed rest until the twins were born, who decided to give a family a scare at the beginning of July when they were delivered a month early. The twin girls were small, but healthy and will join the family at home soon. Its been difficult for Jonathan to make ends meet since he has not been able to go back to work. When Quantus Mortgage Solutions broker Jason Roy with JMortgages visited the family, Jonathan said that the donation takes a lot of pressure off him and that they would make the money go as far as possible. With the new twins at home, Jonathan is unsure when he will be returning to work. The family is trying to have an aunt from Nigeria come and help however the paperwork could take another three to four months. Jonathan knows that it will be a struggle, but he knows that they will find a way. Helping such deserving families is why we do what we do. Thank you to everyone who has made this story possible.

Helping the Carriere family. The common cold is something that nearly all kids experience. Rarely does the cold lead to more than a few days of a runny nose or a cough. But for Matis Carriere, his cold was the sign of something far more serious. At just 9-years-old, Matis was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Group A Streptococcus in May 2019. This disease can impact people in a variety of ways but in Matis case, it materialized into necrotizing fasciitis, commo...nly referred to as flesh eating disease. Matis has been in the hospital since his diagnosis in May and has received several surgeries on his feet, knees, and arms to remove the infected areas. Hes currently at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital recovering and learning how to walk again. Its been a gruelling battle for Matis and his family. Matis parents, Eric and Julie commute from outside of Edmonton each day to visit while spending the remainder of their time with Matis three siblings. But through it all, the Carriere family has still found reasons to smile every day. Last week, Lisa Last Mortgage Broker/Quantus Mortgage Solutions visited the family to deliver the cheque. Matis was so energetic and sweet despite all the hospital time and surgeries. The family was so lovely and they smiled through our entire meeting despite everything they have faced over the past couple of months. Matis will be at Glenrose for one more month before he can go home. We are so honoured to play a small part in getting the Carrieres back on their feet again. Thank you to all who donated to make this possible!

Ibrahima Sylla and his wife are proud parents of three girls, however, the start to 2019 has turned their world upside down as their middle daughter, Raquayyah, is currently in hospital with an unknown illness. Raquayyah was your typical healthy one-year-old; hyper, busy, and happy. But in early Spring, she started to choke on her food and experience extremity issues hindering her ability to walk. She was admitted to Stollery Childrens Hospital Foundation to undergo tests to... determine what was going on. This wasnt the only hospital visit the family made this Spring. One week after Raquayyah was admitted to hospital, Ibrahimas wife gave birth to their third daughter. It appeared that everything was going well with Raquayyah when she began doing rehab at the Glenrose facility. However, last week Raquayyah was readmitted to Stollery as her heart rate and breathing would periodically stop. She is currently hooked up to a breathing and feeding tube while doctors try to figure out what is Raquayyahs illness is. Jacqueline Jeffries, Mortgage Broker met with Ibrahima and Raquayyah in Stollery last week to deliver a cheque from Community Key. He was so kind, humble, and truly grateful for the support. Ibrahima has experienced the highest of highs and lowest of lows these past few months. He was laid off in March and has been unsure of what will happen next. We are beyond honoured that we could provide support to such a deserving family.

We are very excited to welcome Jacqueline Jeffries, Mortgage Broker to our Board of Directors. As a broker with Quantus, she has been part of Community Key for the last three years and we are excited to see her strong leadership on the Board. What is she looking forward to most as a Board member? "I am passionate about giving back to others and love that Community Key is committed to helping families in need!" Join us in welcoming Jacqueline!

Visiting the hospital every Friday has been a routine for the Jardeleza family for months. Their youngest son, Zander, was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in May 2018 and has had treatments since then. But, on May 10, the family received a relieving surprise when the hospital called and said they did not need to come for their regular visit; Zanders liver enzyme reading had dropped. This positive news was welcome after a year of battling the disease. This was the ...happy atmosphere we walked into on Friday. Franky and Zoe Jardeleza have had a challenging past year. Last May, Zander started having low-temperature fevers that would run for days at a time and disappear. After taking Zander to the hospital for blood tests, Zander was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia. This type of leukemia happens very quickly and is more common in adults. From May through to October, Zander underwent treatments at the Alberta Childrens Hospital Foundation while the family waited for a stem cell transplant. When a matching transplant was found, Zander had to wait another month until he recovered from infection to successfully receive the transplant. Zoe has not been able to work while caring for Zander and his nine-year-old brother. Franky had to take a leave of absence from work to drive the family back and forth to the hospital. Costs for Zanders medication have also been highalmost a full months mortgage payment itself! They have had some support through Frankys employee benefits, but the costs have still stressed their budget. Its also been a challenging transition for Zander and his brother. Zander has been back at home since December but because of his weakened immune system, he has limited contact with other children, only playing on the playground when no other children around. Zander will have to stay in Calgary for the next year and if his treatments continue to go well, the family will be able to travel outside of Alberta in two years. But through all of these trials and hardships, Zander and his family are wonderfully resilient and are looking forward to taking Zander to the Philippines one day. Franky and Zoe have such positive spirits and could only thank everyone who has helped their family through their challenging time. We were so inspired after spending the day with the Jardeleza family and we were so honoured that we could offer some more happy news with a cheque to cover their housing payments. We wish the best for Zanders recovery and cant wait to see him travel through the Philippines one day!

This is our favourite moment. Over the Easter weekend, we visited the Jaguri family with a key. It doesnt open anything new, but it keeps the front door open to their home. Rashmi and Vineeta both worked in Fort McMurray before their children, five-year-old Rayansh (Ray) and three-year-old Vania, were born. Vineeta stayed home after Ray was born as he began to experience heart complications. At eight months old, Ray had a heart transplant. But that didnt stop Ray from findi...ng his love of water and playing with technology. Since he was two-years-old, Ray has been a techy-whiz on phones and tablets. When Vineeta was pregnant with Vania, Ray was diagnosed with autism. He currently works with a therapist three times a week to improve his communication skills. But last spring Rashmi and Vineeta heard the words no parents want to hear when they took Ray to the hospital for a bloated stomach; Ray had lymphoma. Since his diagnosis, hes had two surgeries followed by chemotherapy treatments. Thankfully, he has been in remission since late 2018 but his heart and immune system have been compromised due to the chemo treatments. He and his family visit the hospital every two weeks for bloodwork and make their way to Edmonton once a year for heart assessments. When the oil and gas downturn hit Fort McMurray, Rashmis work schedule was cut. Hes currently on call as a cook for a camp in the area but it is inconsistent with only one week assignments at a time. Vineeta is completing her massage therapy certification which will allow her to work in Calgary and Rashmis mother is visiting from India to help care for the kids. Through all their ups and downs, we are so humbled by the Jaguris positivity and dedication to paying-it-forward. They were very grateful for the donation from Community Key and they hope that they will be able to donate in the future to help other families. Thank you to all that made this happen and for Cheryl Morrier - Mortgage Specialist for taking the time to meet Ray and his family over the weekend.

http://GIVING// This evening I had the honour of meeting the wonderful Mr. Baylen LaPierre, on behalf of Community Key. Baylen is a fun spirited, quick witted, 13 year old teenage boy.... He enjoys playing video games, a good joke, hanging out with friends, going to Calgary Stampede Round Up Band practice and performances, school and MOST of all spending time with his family. (He plays a mean saxophone and was very happy to make fun of how I used to play the Oboe ) As his father told me, he would do anything to help anyone and has such a HUGE HEART Baylen is fiercely fighting an aggressive and rare form of Brain Cancer known as Pineoblastoma. We are so proud of his courage and that of his family, as they move through this process. We wish them the very best. - Eden Simari: Community Key (*posted with the familys permission*)

He is receiving ongoing chemotherapy treatment for his illness but nevertheless has the brightest spirit and loves to laugh. His family is dedicated to helping others who have children with cancer or other life threatening illnesses. The holidays are about giving to those we love and celebrating family. And, we could not be more honoured to extend our Community Key family to Charlotte and Ben Sears. Charlotte was born with severe hearing disabilities and by the age of four, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She has been in and out of the hospital since her birth and is currently being treated in the BC Childrens Hospital Foundation with her family residing in Surrey. However, Charlotte has not been the only ...one who has been in the hospital for treatments. Earlier this year, Charlottes mother and Bens wife, passed away from breast cancer. Ben had to leave his job to take on a full-time caregiver role for Charlotte. Without a job and other savings to lean on, its been challenging for Ben to make mortgage payments. Quantus Mortgage Solutions own Chad Eliason - Mortgage Broker and Danielle Walker of Merix met with Ben and Charlotte earlier this week to surprise the family with a cheque to help with mortgage payments--and just one more surprise. Danielle and fellow Merix Financial colleague Danielle Stuart also purchased a few Christmas presents for Charlotte! What an unbelievable experience. Charlotte is beyond sweet. Spending time with her and Ben was so humbling. I will keep Charlotte in my prayers daily and look forward to updates from Ben. I have promised Charlotte I will stay in touch. Danielle W.

Last week, we were able to meet with the Sillah family and deliver a cheque. Ruth is a single mother taking care of her two children. One of her children, Delvin, was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at the young age of 3. As you can see, having grown up with this disease, he has spent the majority of his life in and out of hospitals. Due to the severity of the sickle cell attacks, known as crises, Delvin constantly needs to be close to a hospital. This morning we were able to meet with the Henkel family Chad and Jamelles son, Nicolas, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia this year on March 29th. He is a year old and a true fighter! So far, he has gone through 4 rounds of chemotherapy as well as received a stem cell transplant provided by his dad. Two weeks after arriving at the hospital in Calgary, the company that Nicolass dad was working for, closed their doors. Since both parents have been away from home fo...r 5 months now, and have two other children in their care, this loss of income had undoubtedly created a financial strain on the family. There is nothing we like more than helping families in this situation, so we delivered a cheque to take care of the Henkels next two mortgage payments. A couple of weeks ago, we received an urgent application from Stollery Childrens Hospital Foundation in Edmonton. The Syed family had to relocate to Calgary in a couple weeks because their infant child, Tayyaba, had to undergo a bone marrow transplant, which is an extremely invasive procedure that is not offered in Edmonton. Tayyaba was diagnosed with Hurler Syndrome shortly after her birth. This condition presented itself at such a young age that it affected her development... resulting in respiratory infections, sleep apnea, as well as skeletal concerns. Due to her condition, she requires coordinated care from multi-disciplinary medical specialists and specific treatments like BMT. Having to move the whole family to Calgary for the 3-6 month treatment, while managing fixed costs back in Edmonton, has become overwhelming and financially limiting for the family as Taj was the sole provider of the family and had to leave his job. Thanks to our wonderful support and donations, we were able to help another family. Continue Reading about the Syed Family: http://keyed.ca/the-syed-family/
