Happy Family Literacy Day! Did you know that according to the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario, one year of parental education has a bigger positive impact on whether a son or daughter will attend a postsecondary institution than an extra $50,000 in parental income? Cooking is a great activity for the whole family to take part in, but it is also one that requires multiple essential skills, particularly reading, math, and document use. At CLA adults can improve these skills so they can get cooking with the whole family. We’re celebrating Family Literacy by reading, cooking, and other ways to learn new skills every day. CLA can help you learn more and improve your skills. Send us a direct message in Messenger to learn more about literacy at any level, or call us at (613) 962-9615.

Happy Family Literacy Day! Children spend five times as much time outside the classroom as they do in school, so parents and caregivers need the tools to support their learning, according to The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease. We’re celebrating Family Literacy Day today! At CLA, adult learners can improve their essential skills such as reading, writing, math, and computer skills which not only can help them in their life, work, and education, but also in teaching these skills to their children. Send us a direct message in Messenger to learn more about literacy at any level, or call us at (613) 962-9615.

Happy Family Literacy Day! According to Scholastic's Family Reading Report, Parents’ reading habits play a large role in determining how often kids read: 57% of kids who are frequent readers have parents who read books 57 days per week, compared to only 15% of kids who are infrequent readers. Reading is an important essential skill for both adults and children alike. At CLA adults can improve their reading skills for life, work, and education. Find out how we can help with reading or other skills by dropping us a line in Messenger or call CLA at (613) 962-9615.

CLA is celebrating International Literacy Day today, where we remind everyone of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights. Literacy is vital for communities. It increases participation in the labour market, reduces poverty, and expands life opportunities. More than just a set of reading, writing and counting skills, literacy is now a means of understanding, interpretation, creation, and communication in a digital, and fast-changing world.

CLA Adult Learning Centres are closed today for Labour Day. But you might not know why... Labour Day is the first Monday in September and a signal that summer is over, however, it also represents more than that. Labour Day represents Canada’s version of a labour movement in which workers fought for their rights through strike action. It was during this time that trade unions became legalized in Canada. ... It was in 1894 that Prime Minister Sir John Thompson declared Labour Day a national holiday in recognition of the Trade Union Act and workers rights. Are you interested in history?
