Advice will be given on exercise, acupressure, diet, and lifestyle that will help to keep you feeling your very best. Don’t wait until you feel sick or have pain - take care of the little problems today before they become big problems! . . . #acupuncture #comoxvalley #comoxvalleyacupuncture #comoxvalleysmallbusiness #chinesemedicine #traditionalchinesemedicine #wellness #wellnesscheck #takecareofyou #preventativehealth #preventativemedicine #preventativemaintenance

The cold and flu season is here, bringing with it stuffy noses and sinus congestion. Here are three acupressure points that will help unblock your sinuses, clear your runny stuffy nose and help with sinus headaches! Large Intestine 4- located between the thumb and index finger in the depression at the end of the crease. This point helps with any head pain as well as clearing the nose. ... Bitong which translates to Nose Opening and is located level to the outer corner of the nostril. This point feels a little tender when pressed, but in a good way:) Bladder Two is located on the inner corner of your eyebrow on the bone. This points is wonderful for eye and head pain and can help clear your sinuses. I suggest pressing these points in rotation for 5-10 minutes a few times a day to help ease your cold and flu symptoms #comoxvalleyacupuncture #acupressure #tcmhealth #coldcare #downtowncourtenay #acupressureforcolds #northislandacupuncture

Acupuncture can play an important role in recovery from a cesarean, helping to improve healing of the tissue, reducing pain and numbness and improving the appearance of the scar. Gentle acupuncture and often moxabustion ( a herbal stick that is warm and held over the needles...and feels so good) promote circulation to improve healing and relieve pain. The benefits of acupuncture include boosting overall energy and vitality, emotional support for the new mother and helping... with milk supply. The best time to come in for treatment is six weeks postpartum but it is never too late to get started:) #comoxvalleyacupuncture #pregnancy #acupuncturepregnancy #csectionrecovery #postpartumcare #downtowncourtenay

Spring is the season of the liver, a time of growth and new beginnings. If your liver qi is not circulating properly you may feel both emotionally and physically stuck. This can show up as depression, irritability, menstrual problems, PMS, pain, headaches, digestive problems. In Traditional Chinese Medicine we believe that it is possible to influence your health according to the foods you eat, with different foods affecting different organ systems and therefore affectin...g the body in different ways. The flavour of the liver is sour and the colour is green so adding green and sour foods to your diet will help to strengthen the liver. Adding lightly cooked leafy greens, lemons, vinegars, fresh herbs help to clear and move the liver. It is also important to limit - greasy fatty foods which block qi and the free flow of energy -stimulants, sugars and processed foods overtax the liver and cause stagnation. -Avoid overeating and eating late at night. Allow at least 2 hours for your body to digest before bed. - Eat mindfully- chew food well and eat slowly. Be nice to your liver, everyone’s could use a little extra love right now See more

Comox Valley Acupuncture 04.04.2020

It’s time to look after your Liver ! The Spring is the season of the liver. In Chinese medicine the liver is responsible for moving energy and blood throughout the body, regulating our emotions, contributing to a healthy menstrual cycle, and has an influence over bowels and digestion. Some signs that your liver is blocked PMS Breast distension ... Pre-period acne Indigestion IBS Irregular bleeding Clots in menstrual blood Depression, anger, irritability Headaches Ways to improve liver health 1Get enough sleep. Aim to be in bed by 10 pm, this helps the liver detoxify and build the blood. 2Eat lots of spring vegetables, leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, fresh herbs to help detoxify the liver. 3Limit sugars, caffeine and alcohol. 4Exercise to move qi and blood. 5Deep breathe, inhale for 4, feeling your diaphragm expand, hold for 4, exhale for 4. This is a great way to help stagnation and blocked qi. 6Listen to your emotions, don’t stuff them down. In Chinese Medicine there is no such thing as a bad emotion, feel it and then let it go. It is when we stuff our emotions down that they start to do damage. 7Limit your exposure to chemicals in your food, household cleaners and cosmetics as this puts added pressure on your liver. 8Acupressure to help move the qi. I love using Li4 and Liv 3, the four gates, to help regulate the flow of qi and blood. 9Herbal formula Xiao Yao San with liver herbs bupleurum, peony, angelica, licorice, mint. This formula is so wonderful to help to nourish your liver& blood, help digestion, calm stress and irritability. It should be in almost every woman’s tool kit What are you doing to take care of your liver this Spring? ~ ~ #comoxvalleyacupuncture #liverhealth #tcmliver #spring #acupressure #courtenaybc #comoxvalley #healthylifestyle #healthyspring @ Courtenay, British Columbia

With the uncertainty and stress surrounding us these days your menstrual cycle can be thrown off track. Our bodies are extremely sensitive to our environment and our thoughts, you need to feel safe in order for your body to ovulate and procreate. For thousands of years Traditional Chinese Medicine has recognized the influence our emotions have on our menstrual cycle. Many women this month have experienced missed periods, late periods, early periods, mid cycle spotting, ...heavy bleeding, light bleeding... you name it!!! This is your body reacting to the stress, fear and worry of our situation right now. Your cycle will return to normal but use this as a message from your body. Take some time to - get outside for a walk - do some deep breathing and relax the tension in your body. -journal this can be a wonderful way to express your fears and worries. Life is weird right now and your cycle might also be weird right now but both will return to normal

Anytime is soup time! In Traditional Chinese Medicine soup is seen as one of best foods to nourish the body as it is easy for your body to digest. The warm temperature and cooked ingredients are easy on your digestive system, allowing you to get the nutrition from your food. When your digestive system is strong and you are processing your food well you are able to make qi and blood to nourish your body. This provides energy for your body, nourishment for your mind and keeps your immune system strong. Get your favourite bone broth and add some leafy greens, sprouts, lemon peel, eggs, ginger, garlic, fresh herbs.... enjoy! #comoxvalleyacupuncture #tcmhealth #foodasmedicine #downtowncourtenay #comoxvalley #tcmfood #tcmfoodtherapy #soupfeelsgood

Immunity is definitely the hot topic right now! Here's my top 5 tips to help boost your immunity at any time: Steam - I love a good steam! I use peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils, or some fresh thyme is wonderful too. Pour boiling water into a bowl, add your essential oils and place a towel over your head for 10 minutes. Do this daily to cleanse your airways. ~ Rest & fresh air - Don't overdo it and weaken your system! Relax, rest, get outside in natur...e. ~ Acupressure - Stomach 36, 4 fingers below the knee on the lateral side of the bone. Press this point on both legs for 5-10 minutes a day to boost your immune system. ~ Herbs & Supplements - My favourite is a formula with a combination of astragalus, licorice, chrysanthemum and jujube; oil of oregano works as an antibacterial; increase vitamins C and D. ~ Food Therapy - Add some garlic, onions, cayenne to help clear the lungs. Limit dairy as this causes dampness and increases mucous production. Avoid sugars which weaken the immune system. Have a pear, which helps to strengthen the lungs. ~ Acupuncture- come on in for a treatment to boost your immune system quickly. I hope you find this helpful! Did you know the colour of your menstrual blood is giving you lots of clues to your overall health? Traditional Chinese Medicine (which has been around for thousands of years-long before ultrasounds and blood tests) has developed an in depth process of determining imbalances by looking at clues the body is giving-blood colour being one of the main marks. Colours can range from pink to dark brown or purple. Kale (and all leafy greens) are wonderful vegetables to help nourish and build the blood Kale helps to detoxify the liver and strengthen the stomach. Kale is also great to help boost energy, aid digestion and bowel movement, and regulate hormones. Kale is more easily digested when cooked so if you have a weak digestive system, it is often better to eat it lightly steamed or roastedTry my delicious kale chips! see recipe on my blog at comoxvalleyacupuncture.comin bio . . . #comoxvalleyacupuncture #comoxvalley #comoxvalleysmallbusiness #downtowncourtenay #acupuncture #tcm #tcmhealth #tcmeating #traditionalchinesemedicine #kale #kalechips #greens #eatyourgreens #eatyourveggies @ Comox Valley Acupuncture

Did you know that many of your household products are having an effect on your health? Many of these products contain Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates which are known endocrine disrupters, having an effect on both male and female hormones. Making some easy changes in your daily routine and product use can help to decrease your toxic load and improve your hormonal health. Switch to glass food containers-plastic containers are full of BPA Use beeswax food wraps instead of pl...astic wrap for food storage-and never microwave plastic wrap! Stop using dryer sheets and scented laundry products as these are loaded with toxic chemicals-use wool dryer balls and unscented laundry soap Switch to natural makeup and skincare products Switch to natural cleaning supplies for your home-vinegar, baking soda and lemon all work well for many jobs around your home . . . #hormonehealth #hormonalhealth #toxicproducts #switchtonatural #tcm #tcmhealth #traditionalchinesemedicine #acupuncture #comoxvalleyacupuncture #comoxvalley #comoxvalleysmallbusiness #downtowncourtenay #localbusiness #comoxvalleylocalbusiness See more

Did you know that your menstrual cycle is a reflection of your overall health? In Chinese medicine we believe women’s bodies were made to menstruate - the period should come and go with very little pain or discomfort, as it is a natural occurrence for women who are within the reproductive age. If you are experiencing symptoms such as bloating, mood changes, breast pain, heavy/light bleeding, acne, headaches these are all signs you are experiencing an imbalance within the bo...dy. While these symptoms are common they should not be seen as normal! It is possible to have a symptom free, healthy, non-medicated period! Interested? My two favourite acupressure points - Li 4 and Liv 3. I will often send patients home with acupressure homework!! These two points are called the 4 Gates and are so good to promote circulation of qi (energy) and blood throughout the body Health in Chinese Medicine involves the free flow of energy and blood By pressing these two points for 5 to 10 minutes a day, you can improve: period cramps hormonal imbalances headaches PMS... sinus congestion energy levels stress anxiety and so much more Why not give them a try?! . . . #acupressure #tcm #traditionalchinesemedicine #tcmhealth #improveqiflow #acupressureforhealth #comoxvalley #comoxvalleysmallbusiness #comoxvalleyacupuncture #qiflow #bloodflow @ Comox Valley Acupuncture See more

Just like we dress differently according to the seasons, we also need to eat differently according to the seasons!Eating seasonally and locally is one of the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine food therapy. . Eating according to the seasons (what is grown and available in your local area) allows our digestive system to work more efficiently, giving us less gas, bloating, bowel troubles (loose or constipated), helps to improve overall energy levels, and can even af...fect our mood . In our winter climate, we should be eating mostly cooked foods, and consuming room temperature or warm beverages. Some great winter food suggestions include: roasted yams, sweet potatoes, squashes broth based soups oatmeal with warmed berries or baked apple or pear steamed spinach, lightly sautéed vegetables braised proteins such as beef, lamb, pork, blackbeans, and stews. . . . #traditionalchinesemedicine #tcm #tcmhealth #seasonaleating #winterfoods #wintereating #eatlocal #eatseasonally #acupuncture #comoxvalleyacupuncture #comoxvalleysmallbusiness See more
