Cowichan Tribes has opened an emergency youth homeless shelter for youth ages 17 and under. It’s open from 3 pm to 9 am daily in the former VIU building on Cowi...chan Way. Youth will be housed in individual rooms, provided food and connected with community services. While priority is given to Cowichan members, if space is available non-members will be housed. Please share this message so we can get the word out! https://cowichantribes.com//News_release_youth_homeless_sh

Dear Community, Please pay attention to this. This sort of viciousness is not a one off incident. I have received several reports of this sort of bullying within the schools system and experienced some of it myself especially upon taking on the Pride Society Presidency role here in the Comox Valley. Quite frankly I find it an astonishingly low standard of behaviour. We need to unite and support our Pride community to advocate for our children, youth and each other. S...o far we have just over 260 signatures for our Safe Culture Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Pledge but this is not enough. It needs to be adapted as a basis for behaviour as we push for higher standards both within the 2SLGBTQI+ community and the community at large. We need to rise above this sort of bigotry and destructive behaviour. Further, we cannot ask others to hold standards we do not display for ourselves and as such need to start recognizing one another’s value, worth and hold responsibility for our own behaviours toward one another. Then, we need to call all levels of education and government to do the same. May we adapt safe culture based in mutually held values, the acknowledgment of fundamental human rights and dignity and may we make that the heart of this community. Sincerely, Autumn Rock Pride Society of the Comox Valley President https://www.mackaisharp.com/overview/kill-yourself
