Massage is MORE than muscles. The most common misconception amongst clients who are new to massage is that RMT’s only treat muscles. This could not be further from the truth. Yes we 100% treat the muscle tissue. But massage therapy can be SO MUCH MORE. Our scope of practice is in fact written as such; The practice of Massage Therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue... and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain. What does that mean for you as a client? It means that not only are we assessing and treating muscles, but we also include tendons, ligaments, cartilage, joints, fibrous tissues, fatty tissues, synovial membranes, fascia, nerves, and sensory organs. Within our scope boney structures, restrictions in blood vessels and skin. Say it with me. Restrictions CAN happen ANYWHERE. Every single therapist out there is at a different level of knowledge. Some want to know it all. Some want to specialize. Some like relaxation. All of this is AMAZING. In your life, you are likely to never have the same massage twice.
