Exercises can be done with or without the loop band. ... . 1Spinal rotations / thoracic-rib cage mobility alternating with hip openings/clam shells x5-10 per side. . 2 Quadruped/Hands &knees: heel press alternating with hip opening or abduction. X10 each leg. . 3 Hands & knees: single leg extension into resistance loop. Add opposite arm reaching or rotation trunk stability. 10x extension, 6-8 x opposite arm reaching . 4Bridging x10 pulses/ hip hinges + 10x hip abduction or opening into band. . 5Resisted Single leg extension into band + Oblique / trunk rotation towards bent knee 5x each leg reaching then 5-8 per side rotation . INTRODUCTION: I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to everyone. The clinic has now been open for 5.5 months and I’m grateful for all the local support and new clients I have worked with around the East Van community. ... My name is Stephanie McCann, I am the owner of @compassphysiopilates but some of you may know me better from my content I share @stephphysiopilates. As an Orthopeadic Physiotherapist I treat various injuries ranging from ligament and muscle strains and sprains to fractures but I have a strong movement back ground in Clinical Pilates and Yoga which I integrate into my patients rehabilitation programs. I have a special interest in Scoliosis and was drawn to treating patients with a conservative approach to spinal care after seeing the similarities in both the Pilates principles and the Schroth Method. I also have a strong tie to youth athletics and amateur athletes due to my younger years being spent as a dancer and gymnast, my teenage years as a volleyball player and track athlete and my early adult life as a National Team Pole Vaulter and later a Canadian Olympian. What to expect for treatment? Scoliosis or Spinal Disorders: 1. If you have an XRay of your spine, please bring the disc or report to your first visit. (If you do not have the report or disc please let your therapist know and they can request these images directly)The Physiotherapist will analyze the images and explain your curve pattern, how it develops and use the information to design a specific program for you.... 2. Your therapist will ask a few questions about your spine, your growth and development and any past injuries and treatment. 3. We ask that you wear a sports bra/ tank top and shorts or leggings during your sessions, as it will assist with the initial assessment of your spine. Your therapist will then perform a few measurements to allow them to design a physiotherapeutic scoliosis- specific exercises (PSSE) program that is unique to your curve pattern. 4. If you currently have a brace, please bring it with you to the initial assessment or if you have been told by a spinal surgeon you require a brace this can be discussed on your initial visit. If you already have a brace, Physiotherapeutic scoliosis- specific exercises (PSSE) are recommended to maintain postural control and strengthen spinal muscles until brace wearing ends. . The Goals of Conservative management of teens, children & adults diagnosed with Scoliosis: 1. Improve esthetics through postural corrections & postural control 2. Prevent or treat any existing spinal pain or joint pain possibly caused by non optimal loading through curve specific postural correction and spinal strengthening program 3. Prevent or treat respiratory/ breathing dysfunction 4. Educate on safe movements and modifications of activities of daily living 5. SEATED POSTURE: . Have you checked in on your sitting posture lately. This is one area I like to explore with my patients if they have back pain or any spinal condition like Scoliosis. . With Scoliosis there will be a tendency to collapse to one side or sit in a rounded position with weight behind sit bones depending on the curve type. ... . Here are a few things to check for yourself: 1. Is your weight more into one sit bone? Or do you lean to one side? 2. Is your lower back rounding? Is most of your weight behind your sit bones? . TRY these suggestions: Make sure both feet are on the ground Try placing a rolled up towel behind lower back to encourage you to sit forward of your sit bones Imagine a string pulling you up from the crown/ top of your head to the ceiling #healthyspine #sitting #posture #loading #alignment #scoliosis #growtall #ADLs #physiotherapy #physio

One of the common tools we use in the Conservative Management of Scoliosis is a wall ladder to help facilitate AUTO ELONGATION or spinal traction to balance the length tension relationship of muscles along the spine. WELCOME BACK: Im thrilled to announce Im preparing to welcome everyone back into clinic in the coming weeks. With the BC Health Ministers approval and new guidelines laid out late Friday by the Physio College I am hoping to have an opening date for my space in the coming days...so please stay tuned!!! . Things will look a little bit different under our new guidelines so I wanted to share a few new protocol I will be following. (A detailed policies & procedures was emaile...d out to my current patients yesterday but you will be able to find more details on my website soon!) Covid Screening & consent before appointment & on arrival Bring a maskif you dont have one a cloth one will be provided Hand hygiene ( hand sanitizer will be provided on arrival) Increased sanitization in the space social distancing implemented when possible contactless payments online come alone except minors or an individual requiring assistance (they will need to be screened as well) I will be wearing a mask and additional PPE where necessary I will have work specific clothes ( cute scrubs ) I will wash my hands before & after every patient I will have increased cleaning & sanitization protocols in place If you have any questions or concerns please dont hesitate to contact me directly.
