Medicine Hat (Alberta) - is a translation of the Blackfoot word, saamis, meaning "headdress of a medicine man." According to one explanation, the word describes a fight between the Cree and Blackfoot when a Cree medicine man lost his plumed hat in the river. http://www.aadnc-aandc.gc.ca/eng/1100100016346/1100100016350

FINALLY! After all these years I've FINALLY found where my great grandfather lived. Its been a long, merry, chase. Nothing like that "genealogy-mystery-solved" feeling. **bliss**

Head down to your local library and discover their reference section! Many times they will hold very useful, difficult to find books. My discovery was Métis Genealogical Compilations in 7 volumes!
