Understanding game scenarios is crucial for implementing these techniques appropriately. So we are structuring a 2 part clinic, a video Zoom prior to the on-ice component, and an on-ice session dedicated to implementing technique and strategy. We don't think there is a single optimal solution to this technic. It can be a difficult position for your body to master and everyone has their own physical limitations making it challenging, to say the least. On top of that, a single goal in this position is one goal too many in the coach's eyes, and can you blame them? Any goal from the goal line with practically no net to shoot at would make anybody cringe. Despite the impossible expectations, unnatural body contortion, and unique game situations that can occur from a goal-line attack, goalies need to get very comfortable in this position. Not nearly enough time is focused on the why and when probably because most students struggle to get past the how.
