Hi everyone, Do you know this cat? A client of ours brought this cat to us who had been hanging around her house near Mineville Road for the past month or so. He is mostly black with some white on his belly, neutered, about 9lbs, and had his hind nails trimmed lately. He is microchipped with 24Hr PetWatch, and we have sent in this information to them to locate the owner. He visited us today because he has an abscess at the base of his tail from a suspected cat bite. Our client was kind enough to take him in to see Dr. Larkin and begin treating him. If you recognise or own this cat, please call us at (902) 281-2273 and we would be more than happy to coordinate with our client to get him home!

Happy Friday! It was a busy week here and at Marley's Hope Dog Rescue! Daliah here finally had her puppies by c-section, 4 survived but unfortunately 1 had passed. Daliah had some trouble letting down milk, so we helped her out with with some Oxytocin, and in the meantime these pups needed some antibodies to help their immune system along! ... After some generous blood donations, including from Dr. Larkin's own dog, Betty, we were able to get some serum injections for these puppies to help them along! If you would like to donate to Marley's Hope Dog Rescue, please contact us and we will put your donations directly toward the medical bill. Please know that neither Daliah or her babies are eligible for adoption at this time, but future inquiries can be made through Marley's Hope Dog Rescue.

We wanted to share a story with you about how pet insurance saved the day for one of our own staff members! Haze, who is the pet of one of our staff members, Denielle, had quite the stint at Metro Animal Emergency Clinic this time last year. When he wasn’t feeling well, Denielle first brought him to us to do some blood work, start him on I.V. fluids, and try treating him with some medication. Through the night, Haze’s condition began to worsen with vomiting and lethargy, so ...Denielle rushed him to the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic in Dartmouth where he was diagnosed with Pancreatitis with secondary Gastric Stasis. Haze spent 4-5 days under the care of the amazing team at Metro before finally coming around. The bill for all of this was a hefty $4,000, but thanks to Trupanion, Denielle only needed to pay about $400! Trupanion was great! They covered 90% of Haze’s treatment. Knowing we were covered took the financial stress off, and I was able to focus on getting him the care he needed! If you'd like more information on Trupanion or would like to request a trial, please call us at (902) 281-2273! Here are some photos of Haze :)

Here's a photo of a tick we saw on a patient a few weeks ago.. Look at how big it is!! This patient wasn't even in for a tick removal - our Technicians happened to notice it while we were petting them! We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again: Ticks are RAMPANT this time of year, and as a result we are diagnosing Lyme disease multiple times per week! If you’ve EVER found a tick on one of your pets, PLEASE reach out and have them in for a Lyme disease test! Having your ...pet in for Lyme disease testing is quick and easy! 1. Call ahead of time so we can set you up for an appointment with a Technician this means there is no fee to see the Doctor! 2. Take your pet in for a quick, 10-minute appointment where the technicians will take a small blood sample (about 0.5mL). 3. Once the sample is taken, you can have your pet back and head home! We will call you with the results within 24 hours! 4. In the case that your pet does have Lyme disease, we will discuss a game plan suited to you and the needs of your pet! The keys to handling Lyme disease are preventing it and catching it early!
